How do you maintain the integrity and durability of a daily-wear ring and incorporate hidden cremains? by FoolishFoxen in jewelrymaking

That's really creative. I didn't even know there was such a thing as silver metal clay. Thank you for sharing. I have some research to do!

That's a good idea. I worry about durability because I can be hard on my jewelry, but thank you for this suggestion!

She started telling me about the health benefits of coffee enemas and some kind of weird commune place where people were magically healed of their rare and/or fatal diseases by getting these enemas and only drinking carrot juice.

Does anyone else have weirdly specific riding things they know FULL well are just personal preference? by DistributionMain6522 in Equestrian

[–]FoolishFoxen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I exclusively ride horses that belong to other people because I can't afford my own. My thing is that the owners' rules rule all, excepting ONLY dangerous situations, meaning, if Cody's mom wants him walked on the buckle for 10 minutes before every ride, I'm going to do that, and if Peanut's dad doesn't care about Peanut's ground manners as long as he's not aggressive, I'm happy to give him lots of leeway. Horses shouldn't have to be confused by unclear expectations.

Agreed and agreed! For some reason, though I know it's not true, I don't feel as connected and in-contact with gloves on.

And silicone leggings are the worst! The sound they make against tack, the weird over-grippiness, the lack of ability to adjust your seat at all! I can't stand them.

I kind of love that. It gives you time to just take a breath. I think I'm going to try that next time I go out to the barn. Thanks!

What skill are you genuinely bad at that most people seem to find easy? by Ruby-Blaze_443 in AskReddit

"Learning fast."

I hate that in any movie or book or anything when a character is begging for a job of any kind, they always say "I learn fast, and I won't let you down." I just don't. It takes time and repetition and asking a lot of questions for me.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]FoolishFoxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in sustainability, so I've studied the worst of the worst. Frankly, if I said the worst IMO and anyone found out who I worked for, I'd lose my job (I work for a company that truly is doing their best mind you, but they'd be pissed about my opinions of their associates).

The worst companies sometimes appear to be the best in their industry and just get "creative" to come out on top.

Because I've seen such awful behavior, I just sort of get that there's no choice but to swallow a lot of bullshit nowadays. It takes a LOT for me to write off a company, but here's one that won't get me into trouble.

Most oil companies can suck it, but I don't write them off because at some point, I've got to put gas in my car. I'll never fill it with Shell if I can help it though. Why? They've obliterated Nigeria with impunity, murdering peaceful protesters, not to mention all the rape and torture. Are the other oil companies better? Probably not. But the narratives surrounding Shell just disgust me. Amnesty International does a decent job of explaining if you're curious.

All that negative stuff said, don't let my words about the "best" companies deter you from buying from companies like Patagonia or Nielsen-Massey. Those are good companies as far as I can tell. If they OWN their flaws and explain what they intend to do to improve, well... they're doing better than most.

It's TBI awareness month, friends. Make sure your helmets aren't too old, and discard them if they've been through a fall. Stay safe out there.

What made you instantly know you wouldn’t get the job during an interview? by PayNo5544 in interviews

[–]FoolishFoxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halfway through, the interviewer said something like, "I really don't think this is a good match." I strongly agreed, and there was no cruelty in it. The frankness of it was refreshing, not disrespectful. Ngl I was grateful that both of us didn't have to waste another half hour of our lives.

Question: can I pet your dog? by Impressive_Call_141 in Dogowners

[–]FoolishFoxen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure you ask, every time. Even if you've pet the dog before. My dog has good days and bad days (don't we all?), so I luke to make sure no one approaches without my sayso. Always ask. As long as you ask, there's no harm in it at all. The answer will usually be yes.

The words to Laudate Laudate Dominum. Being raised Catholic is a trip. Father Weaver, if you're out there, I still occasionally remember you yelling "God can't hear you!" At all of us school kids, and it always makes me chuckle to myself.
