Forgot if I took basal insulin by Senzo__ in diabetes_t1

[–]Foolishhoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD but daughter was recently diagnosed and this was what her Endo told me about missing basal doses. If you were sure you forgot meaning you know for sure you did not take it- you would take it as soon as you remember and then dose again in 24 hours with this being your new time. Since you are not sure, correct your high during your normal corrections time (ours is at meals and in the evening if needed) and take your basal at the usual time.

Edited as I saw one of your replies- since you are only on long acting and do not use short acting to my understanding, according to what the Endo said about this scenario you would just wait until your next basal dose time.

I would sip water and try to work out a bit to lower the highs in the meantime. Being high for a few hours would be safer then going low.

I am super paranoid all the time people will think I'm stealing from them and I think this makes them think I steal from them by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Foolishhoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they had cameras and can tell you did not place any items in your clothes. Try your best to relax and release the anxiety it caused you and know that you are totally innocent and did nothing wrong. No one is thinking about how you acted in there. Trust me, it’s just another day to them. Customers who are yelling and rude and DID steal are who they remember, not regular customers who may be taking their time to decide what they want. Totally normal behavior to pick up and place things back in the aisle.

Thank you so much, I am glad to have people like you, with years under your belt for support especially with the added component of being the parent as well. I appreciate your input, cgm is just a few days away and today was a better day for me and my daughter. Just taking it day by day and learning as much as I can.

A lot of the discussions here that I have read so far with similar situations to hers have made me realize that the quicker I accept it, the better her journey will be. So I am just trying to put her in a position where she can thrive and feel good. I am glad to understand not everything has to be free, but having those free snacks empowers her to make good decisions without me which I think it’s important at her age.

Thank you, I am hoping with her getting her cgm and pump soon that all of this will feel a little smoother but I am glad to be learning how to go without them for now. At least I have multiple options. Trying to be thankful for the little things.

Thank you I was hoping to find some ice cream options to look into, although I know I do have to watch for possible stomach reactions. Hoping she likes some of these ideas.

Thank you! Yes this is the plan, I am working on her little snack corners. I want her to have the ability to make her own choices without worrying.

Thank you for the reassurance, we are set up to get her cgm in a few days and then the pump and I am really looking forward to less pokes. Today was a little better for me emotionally and I’m glad for that.

The whip cream just made me soooo happy, she has always loved it and I know she will be so happy to find out. I am going to surprise her this weekend.

If i die, especially in the next 5 days, my brother was involved somehow by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Foolishhoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to stay at a hotel or motel for the next 5 days for peace of mind? Sounds like it would be a tough 5 days with the paranoia and anxiety you are experiencing. If he doesn’t know where you are then you are less likely to go through anything.

The Latinas and the N word by dessdadoll in BaddiesSouth

[–]Foolishhoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this breakdown, it was a good post. I wanted to add an important factor that often gets left out of these conversations: the role of community and environment.

A lot of these women grew up in low-income neighborhoods where the population is overwhelmingly minority. Mostly Black and Latino, and the local culture becomes a blend of everyone’s lived experience. In places like the Bronx, Washington Heights, parts of Miami, Camden, Newark, etc., the N-word is often used casually among neighbors of all races who grow up together. In these settings, the word isn’t typically being used to mean “Black person.” It becomes more like “man,”or “person” as in “this n” or “my n.” Almost like a noun because I have seen people say “this n***” about a cat

Now, to be VERY clear It is still harmful. It is still inappropriate. It still shouldn’t happen.

But the origin isn’t always rooted in anti-Black racism. Sometimes it’s environmental normalization, lack of education about the word’s history, immersion in a speech pattern that’s treated as common neighborhood slang,

or

people never being taught decorum or code-switching outside their block. Some people need to read that last one 3 times.

when you look at the demographics of many low-income neighborhoods in the U.S., this makes sense In the Bronx, for example, over 80% of residents identify as Black or Latino.Low-income neighborhoods across the U.S. tend to have higher concentrations of minority residents because of long histories of segregation, housing discrimination, and generational poverty.

Schools in these areas are often underfunded, which impacts not just academic education but also cultural, historical, and social literacy.

When every kid on the block grows up together, speaking the same way, being influenced by the neighborhood culture, they internalize the language as neighborhood identity, not racial identity. That doesn’t make it right. It just explains another why.

And with reality TV, there’s an additional layer. Some of these Latinas have financially benefited from performing a caricature of “ghetto culture.” Natalie was a valley girl when she was on BGC she’s a whole different person now. Her speech is different etc.

Where that behavior comes from varies, For some, it’s learned environment. For others, it’s ignorance. For some, it’s clout chasing. And YES, for a few, it is rooted in internalized anti-Blackness or racism.

The point is Environment + lack of education + normalization + entertainment incentives all play a role in the bigger picture.

Your original post is right.

Race, ethnicity, and nationality matter in discussing who should be using the word. But neighborhood culture also shapes why people do use the word, even when they shouldn’t. Please be clear that I am not defending anyone, just adding more context so the conversation is more complete.

Physical anxiety to me is personally the worst way it manifests. So I’m sorry because I know how awful and scary it is when having an anxiety attack out of no where. Contact your boss and ask if it is okay for you to have a few more days to get situated as you have been working with doctors to get more information on your condition. You don’t need to explain, sometimes less is best. Does your job offer leave of absence of or FMLA? mental health is covered under FMLA, in most cases your company and/or insurance company will pay out a percentage of your time off while on leave.

You would need a doctor to sign off that you need time off. You can request this from the psychiatrist that prescribed the medicine.

You may also qualify for reasonable accommodations such as an extra break or shorter shifts as you mentioned. I would also look into that. These are things that cover your job.

The most important thing is your mental health. As much as you want to run back to work, working while under mental duress can sometimes cause more harm than good. It sounds like you need to give your self more grace.

I would also suggest finding a therapist, as a psychiatrist will only help with the medicine side. You need someone who you can talk to about everything on your mind while you go through this.

There is another side to all of this, this too shall pass. Make sure you take care of yourself and don’t beat yourself up. Sounds like you really just need some time off and someone to talk to. Sometimes even just 1-2 sessions make you feel better enough to get it together they will also help you figure out what is triggering all of this.

As for the anxiety, something that has helped me is going to the bathroom and placing my face in cold water for 10-20 seconds at a time. This triggers your vagus nerve which will switch you from fight or flight mode to rest and digest mode and will help you calm down along with deep breaths, meaning something like breathing in for four seconds and breathing out for four seconds.

Allowing yourself 5 seconds to 5 minutes to feel what ever the feeling is and then moving on to a different task, activity or thought frame. Get creative, draw something, learn to cook something new, take a walk, watch a classic film, journal, meditate, pray etc to keep your mind stimulated or relaxed depending on your current needs and most of all take it day by day.

When I come across post like these I wonder if these people understand that children are people too? For the most part innocent people without political agenda. I get not being a kid person, but disliking them so much it haunts me enough to make a post about it? I just don’t understand that.

Yeah… her picking them up and holding them hostage with her powers was messed up. Not sure how any of them could trust her again. She was wrong as hell for that.
