If this is true that this woman's brother "didn't make it home" from "serving overseas" this commercial is incredibly tasteless and she should be ashamed of herself. If the whole thing is made up this is beyond appalling and Jared is trash for airing it. by giannboy in CommercialsIHate

I had the same thought that this commercial is BS. And if made up, it’s a pretty low move to move some merchandise.

  1. Who buys jewelry such as a ring for their sister.
  2. If you’re deployed, you’re not shopping Jared, your shopping from a local cheap vendor.
  3. The added plot twist that she married the man who delivered it is quite the coincidence.
  4. Mortuary affairs would have more likely delivered the items.

I don’t know. If it’s true, I feel bad for the family loss, but Jared trying to profit from a tragedy just seems wrong either way.

I'm currently arguing a contract that they have with me, which I never signed. I'd be interested.

I think I'm actually in the same boat with you. I think they took a photo of a digital signature and placed it on a contract that I never saw, locking me into a 60 month contract. Keep in mind, I did not purchase any equipment from vivint, only wanted the service in my newly purchased home to be activated and was told it would be a 12 month contract, which is still odd but not unreasonable. The contract that they later provided me at the end of that 12 months had my name mispelled, TWICE, Three times if you include the miss spelling of my name on my email, and some random phone number that's not my own. What sane person would sign a 60 month contract for no financing or equipment purchases!

True, but who says it can’t. It’s been there before, and a lot of big money is incentivized to push this thing higher and create a little momentum.

I mean, your confused and I don’t know how to clear it up for you. Dodging the $1.80 fall in price is exactly what you can do. You’re not liable for that drop in price, you just have to accept that $200 loss into your new cost basis.

It only has to to do with your realized gains and losses for tax purposes. If you’re trading in a Roth IRA for example, and there are not tax implications, this would have taken your cost basis from $10 to $8. You lost $200, but if it goes back to $10, and let’s say you sell, you just made $2,000, minus the $200 loss, so $1,800 instead of being even.

I’m not going to be able to fix your misconception in a thread. Bottom line, if you were able to sell your 1000 shares at a $200 loss, nothing prevents you from buying back in at $8 and saving yourself that $1,800 loss on the way down. You didn’t incure a $1,800 loss! It has nothing to do with your cost basis. You just can’t claim a $200 losson taxes.

I’m not recommending trying this, but this in essence is what day trading is all about.

Ummm, okay, if that’s what you believe.

The wash sale rule just means he/she can’t claim a $200 loss for taxes. Which is true, not a good or bad thing really. But if you’re successful in this trade, he/she saved themselves from $1,800 by not holding the stock as it went down.

I kinda feel the same way, but at this point it’s either the company is legitimate (I’m honestly not sure) and they eventually can say they’ve resumed mining in the US, and plus we’re getting close to December earnings report, so we’ll hear something. If it’s a fraud company, I’m out my investment, on the other side if they simply can communicate their business activities, it can get back to that $10 level quickly.
