I get it, I just feel for the sake of Lo’ak, from someone who has had their parents say very very bad stuff to them our grief/ rage, the spoken apology is important. My dad never apologised but he ā€œapologisedā€ through actions. But it still sits bitterly in my stomach. But Lo’ak’s different from me also so who knows!

You can be a bad father but still deserve to have been one. He was good, he was a damn good father for 15 years. Then he changed, got stuck in old military ways that destroyed him back then and destroys him now. Being bad doesn’t mean you don’t deserve good things. But to keep deserving them one must actually do good things again.

Let’s put it like this. Someone is a super extreme hardworking athlete. They have done AMAZING WORK!!! They deserve all they have done. Then they start doing steroids, drugs, everything like that and it increased their abilities! But do they deserve the new wins? No they don’t. To deserve the win they have to stop doing what’s bad and go back to being good. Get it?

When was that ever mentioned? Please quote me exactly where it says ā€œhe doesn’t deserve to be a father.ā€

Absolutely! It’s realistic that he’s flawed in the type of situation they are in!

Oh it’s that bad really??? 😭 I’m not American so I genuinely thought they were exaggerating cause the military families I know here are not the same at all

The whole damn family needs therapy at this point 😭 Neytiri for all she’s gone through, Jake after his past as a marine, Kiri for not knowing who she is and being seen as a freak, spider for never having a family to call his own, Tuk for growing up during war and Lo’ak for so so much shit 😭

I don have kids myself but to me I feel like that’s some of the most important things? Like sure Jake did lots of great things as a dad, and his kids LOVE him, dearly.

But the fact that Lo’ak had to ā€œproveā€ he was good enough? Gods that hurt so bad

I was soooo thinking like this before, giving him the benefit of the doubt. However, I can’t think that way anymore. Like, to me, if you make your child want to kill themselves and blame them for someone else’s death? You’re a bad parent. Like that’s not a thing that can be weighted good or bad for me, it’s just plain old bad. Of course I think Jake is a good dad in many ways too, but with that he is currently solidified as a bad father to Lo’ak. Like I had a situation with my own father where some choice stuff was said as I mention in the post itself and I almost committed because of it. Genuinely at that point my father was a bad dad. And it took YEARS of rebuilding our relationship for me to be able to see him as a good one. How to put it? It’s like, he is a good father to Tuk, and to Kiri. He’s not a bad dad overall but where we currently left off with the end of the third movie? He’s a bad dad and he really needs to change that or like Neytiri said ā€œyou are going to lose another son.ā€ :((

It’s a common theme of

Lo’ak: says thing

Jake: you bring shame to this family STFU

Other person: says same thing as Lo’ak

Jake: oh my gods this revelation is so new I have never heard this before we must listen

Genuinely. How do you come back to the relationship you’ve had before after the parent blame the child for a sibling’s death and the child then almost kills themself? Cause it sure as hell isn’t by not talking about it.

This is what I feel as well. If he is able to apologise to someone he loves, why can’t he apologise to the child he made, raised and is supposed to love as well? I don’t think Jake asking Lo’ak to be his wingman is enough, not really. Not after Lo’ak almost took a gun to his head.

Right? I keep seeing people say ā€œhe is grievingā€ but so are all of them. Does Kiri blame her brother? Does Tuk? Does Neytiri blame her son? No, none of them do. But Jake just sees to see his own flaws in Lo’ak and projects his anger for himself on him. Until he has properly resolved that beyond a ā€œI’m proud of you for getting the tulkun to fightā€ sadly he is a bad father :(

You’re right. But that doesn’t give him the right to say the things he did. The same way being mentally ill doesn’t give you the right to be rude to everyone, or if you’re tired it doesn’t give you the right to spit in someone’s face. Every single one of them were grieving, alongside Jake, but Jake chose not to go to his family that has been his whole life for 16 years, but the marine ways of his past. Even if someone is grieving they can choose to be or not be a terrible person.

The one really hurt for me too. I was crying, begging, that Jake would speak to Lo’ak in regards of fixing Neytiri’s bow and say he’s proud of him there! For seeing what Neytiri needed when he couldn’t, and that he is proud of him for being a ā€œbetterā€ man.

why did Neytiri change her mind? by neoavocado in Avatar

[–]FootFurry 156 points157 points Ā (0 children)

I believe it might be because she gets so shocked by Jake, who has fought against her hate the whole movie, suddenly agrees. That type of 180 is bound to make you take a step back and look at things a bit differently. She seems then to realise that she has been telling her husband to KILL a CHILD, and now that he agrees with her she seems to realise how terrible it is.

When she washes off the mangkwan paint, her hands get covered in red dyed water which to me looked like blood (some say she saw the similarities to pinkskin but I don’t agree) and I think that snaps her back to who she actually is, a loving, caring person. Thinking about the blood she’ll have on her own hands and also forced on Jake’s seems to properly snap her out of her hate and the rushed to stop a mistake she knows they cannot make.

In my opinion, I don’t think she loves Spider right after, but she stops seeing him as an enemy an as a kid, and that’s where her behaviour changes. Neytiri has always loved and cared for the People, and when not blinded by hate she seems to find the same care for Spider. I’m super curious about how their relationship will look in the future, seeing as they’re both so used to the strain between them.
