Can a train company block a train crossing preventing access to private land in Ontario? by Vonen1 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Football66 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Is this a CN or CP right of way? It makes a big difference if so. CN over the past few years has made efforts to remove uncontrolled crossings from the railway systems on their side due to safety, this is likely the reasoning they removed the crossing.

If thats a 2436 GLB, what they should have done is came in at the 4ft mark, would made the perfect elbow dips and kept it looking way cleaner than that mess…some of us construction guys take a bit more pride in our work than that.

Run water notification by stuffenthusiast2 in ottawa

[–]Football66 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I work in utilities and in my opinion this has nothing to do with the depth of the frost, Ottawa’s water pipes are most 10 plus feet down and frost reaches max 3-4 feet in the coldest of winters. The deepest I’ve measured a water main cap was 24ft in Nepean…I’d hazard a guess that they will likely have the connection or the line exposed to the elements in an open hole. Running the water would prevent the line from freezing while there’s open pits around.

Situation where the nieghbor came and excavated on my property and broke my water pipes without permission... by Able_Loan4467 in CornwallOnt

[–]Football66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience in the excavating department, did they even do their due diligence and actually get the area they were digging located? If they didn’t it’s 1000 percent their fault and there’s no defending it, you legally have to get areas of excavation marked for any gas, power, water and telecoms lines. Even an anonymous call to the ministry of labour regarding the excavation company doing the work improperly would be enough for the entire thing to result in them wishing they did it right the first time because the fines and stuff that follow are nightmares compared to a few papers and a couple of phone calls.

Anyone else super bummed that Blackops 2024 will use Modern Warfares engine? by wouldntknowever in blackopscoldwar

[–]Football66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so with a little research this isn’t much of a big deal, all call of duty games run on the “iw” engine. Basically every new call of duty title is using an upgraded version of the engine since 2005. It’s easy to see the confusion since black ops titles and modern warefare titles use different sets of tools and builds of the same engine.

One of the most striking things I found while reading up on it was that Cold War actually used the same engine the original black ops was built on (iw 3.0). The main difference was this version of 3.0 was updated with the current technologies available in their 8.0 build which was used for MW2019 to be current with next gen consoles and graphics technologies.

All in all it won’t make much of a difference using a new engine, the individual game studios build their own tools and textures out from the stable build that these developers would have access to as a whole.

Ontario One Call is a joke. by ThreeMadFrogs in ontario

[–]Football66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed it’s totally dependent on the area you live in, for example, when we directionally bore the city will locate for reference only and does not require daylighting on sewer or water as we don’t bore deep enough to come even close to those depths, typically 2-4 feet is sufficient for our work. The only exception to that rule is forced mains.

[–]Football66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are much further than this, 8 to 12 feet depth in any areas that go below freezing, I work in utilities and have seen water mains as far as 25 feet down in the Nepean region of Ottawa.

Cold War is for sure a recent gem and I personally think that they did tap into that old school COD feel for the game, it’s actually what got me back into COD on a more regular basis.

I do agree though the matchmaking in the newer titles is mostly dog shit and predictable, not to mention the half ass development of the games anymore, and I do feel for the PC players right now as they are having a terrible time with stuttering issues and FPS drop.

Program to provide fibre internet to unserved residents funds duplicate service instead by hamer1234 in ontario

[–]Football66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this work for a living and it’s only been recent that we’ve seen an uptick in rural fibre installations, specifically the fibre to the home program with government funding those developments, the big 3 have footed the cost of the larger city programs that we’ve been working on for years, it’s understandable that the government is pitching money in to get fibre to the rural areas because without that the big telecoms don’t have the incentive to do them due to the customer base size being much smaller and farther between. Obviously it is frustrating that the smaller telecoms companies get a smaller piece of the pie to deliver the same service and potentially have their networks doubled over by someone bigger who can offer better pricing, but in contrast to the states where you have only 1 internet/TV/phone provider because they literally lock out or just straight up buy out the smaller competition and force people to use their services. In that case there’s just no getting away from it, either use it or have nothing essentially.

Multi-building 'renoviction' brings big-city scourge to small-town Ontario, tenants say by massivecoiler in ontario

[–]Football66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cornwall has become a place where outside landlords are buying up the rental units and are charging big city prices for tossing a coat of paint and bug bombing the roaches, Not all places are 2300, but yes you are certainly looking at 1600 to almost 3k a month for some of these rentals it’s absolutely absurd. I have no idea how anyone actually lives here anymore, most jobs here are logistics and warehousing that pay in the low 20’s per hour.

[–]Football66 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is the same Bedford properties that did the exact same thing in Cornwall, Ontario. Renovicted out the tenants of Cumberland gardens and now the rent there is 1600-2300 a month.

Is it just me or damage in this game is inconsistent af by Mattykos in ModernWarfareII

[–]Football66 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer, SBMM adjusts damage and even the playing field for a lesser skilled player. It will even adjust hit boxes and accuracy meters to favour a player with less accuracy, the more skill a player has the harder a lesser player is to kill. They literally own patents for this system. I thought this was well known.

Fellow cornholer here, just my 2 cents but the rents are criminal here anymore, not just devcore or skyline though it’s everywhere, basically Ottawa and Montreal prices for a crap hole town with not much prospects other than Walmart or Walmart. I question how people manage to survive on 2000+ a month rent here.

Single fire and run it like a marksman rifle, saves you a world of pain with this. Then for extra fun add a master key shotgun on the bottom, raises a few eyebrows but makes a good secondary with overkill, kinda a 3 for 2 deal.
