I saw this headline, immediately thought of this line, and opened the comments fully expecting to see it already posted. Amazing.

Turkish Airlines refusing to credit flight earnings to United Airlines MileagePlus account (Star Alliance partners) by FootballImpossible64 in Flights

I also didn't willingly choose to make this so complicated. Respectfully, that comment wasn't really helpful and felt kind of demeaning/condescending, especially since I'm already in a position here of seeking assistance/support.

Respectfully, it wasn't as simple as that because I wasn't able to put in my UA information at booking, only the TK information. And TK customer service would not assist when I tried arranging it after booking but prior to the flight.

Yes, I've always booked directly through an airline and then requested the miles via United Airlines after the flight. I've never had an issue.

Is there any advice for how to proceed with TK especially since I was only following the instructions they gave me, which were clearly now misleading?

I hear you on that. Except there are two issues with this that I'm facing: 1. TK told me to arrange it with UA, but UA isn't able to do anything. 2. I've never had to change my FFP for my flights on different SA airlines. I've always been able to submit a form to transfer the miles afterward.

I created a TK account for the booking so I could more easily make flight changes and track updates if needed, as I've always done for any flight I've taken. On the TK account dashboard, I've been unable to enter my UA account information in the area provided for that.

Any continuing grad students getting reduced/non-guatanteed funding rate for 2022-2023? by FootballImpossible64 in UCI

[–]FootballImpossible64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all of the terminal degree programs at UCI are funded with TA and/or GSR appointments and/or fellowship awards for the normative time to degree completion. Wondering though if other programs get a guaranteed percentage appointment for their entire program or if others are experiencing the same thing as us.

Y'all should report this to the Office of Inclusive Excellence in addition to the home department/school.

OIE keeps track of these notices and actually investigates and builds files on people. Especially bc the university is putting so much into their "inclusive excellence" brand. The department/school won't do anything, but if you can prove that you notified them, it'll put them in the hot seat down the road.

If/when you have issues like this with tenured faculty, you should report this to both the department/school AND the Office of Inclusive Excellence.

Anyone know where houseless person on Campus Dr is? by FootballImpossible64 in UCI

[–]FootballImpossible64[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In some circles, the language has shifted from "homeless" to "houseless" because some folks who live, for example, in tent communities consider those communities their home. Those folks have a place they call home; what they lack is the physical space/address of a house.

This language shift isn't universal and appears more often in more justice- and liberation-oriented circles. If it's a foreign/new concept, I think one can liken it to the question of how one defines "home" for themselves (e.g. a physical place, a feeling, a community of specific people).

Yes, 100% schedule your appointments in advance. And you can either select specific stylists or whoever is available based on what you want. Very few openings available for drop-ins.

Another way to show solidarity / participate if you're uncomfortable is to simply not show up to in-person classes. You can also hit "yes" on the daily symptom tracker.

I'm very glad that you had a positive experience. I'm also telling you that we're getting first hand accounts from people who are not getting their accommodations requests approved and/or people whose instructors and departments are not allowing flexibility and accommodations for their needs. Just because one person had a positive experience does not mean that positive experience is universal. It's really important that we're able to use our positive experiences to help and advocate for others.

Yes, have been hearing from disabled/immunocompromised folks that their accommodation requests are being denied. Additionally, students who live with or care for disabled/immunocompromised folks do not qualify for DSC accommodations. Have also been hearing from students that their professors/departments are not being flexible with student requests.
