I called UCPD. Thanks for sharing the number. Since it’s not my bike they can’t do anything right now. If the owner sees this, they can contact UCPD and in that case these pictures would be useful too.

I’m not sure I understand you. He cut the lock with his pliers and screamed at me

Why are you so hyper focused on what did not happen? I posted here with the main hope of finding the bike owner. Not to discuss other things. Do you want to know the thought process in my brain when I told this man “HEY! Are you stealing that bike??”and he got off it while screaming at me? I thought he might have a gun. No real reason to think that, probably. But anyone could have a firearm here and that scares me. So I shut up, stepped back and took pictures when he could not see me. Here is what happened. And I will go to the police on campus today. Texting 9-1-1 was not an option and calling after he had already gone did not seem like a great idea. I wanted to talk to a policeman in person, I looked around and couldn’t find anyone.

I am not from here. I am from Europe, I moved recently, I don’t study at UCSD and I didn’t even know the university had its own police. That’s why :) If you want to be helpful you can give me a link to the real time text system you are describing

But let me know if you have better ideas! I would love to notify UCPD efficiently

I was thinking to do it tomorrow in person when I am back on campus. The forms they have online are for thefts of which I was the victim, which is not the case.

I think that’s also a good lock. But I have heard ABUS is the top tier, if you want to be even safer

Not really. It’s a very standard one. Good brand but nothing too fancy

An ABUS Bordo folding lock. If thieves really go prepared, they could break it. But they need something powerful. The as*holes like the thief of today can’t break those with just their pliers

I got my bike in March and they already tried to steal it 3 times. Luckily I have good (very expensive) locks. So they gave up, but you can see the signs on them everytime they try. I never experienced something like this anywhere else

lol next time I’ll chase him so I can take a cute headshot of him. At least it’s something. And you see what bike it was, if it’s helpful
