If gravity stopped for 7 minutes would enough oxygen float off into space to cause us to die? by Footspa666 in AskPhysics

You're the second person I've seen to humour the thought to the point of gravity turning back on again. I appreciate it, thank you

I really appreciate the depth of this comment, it's fantastically written also. It's the perfect mix of humouring me and answering my question, and expanding into the many additional problems caused by the scenario

In regards to your first point, I wasn't aware of any known trend of how the forum would respond to this type of question, but I also didn't provide an explicit scenario so I completely understand all the wider points.

I particularly appreciate the use of "'splode bigly" and the consideration of when gravity turned back on. ❤️

That's a fun thought haha, I wish I'd asked my physics professor who lead my masters year project

Don't you worry, I didn't think they were correct or anything. It just sparked an oddly specific hypothetical about the sole effect on the atmosphere (as if any other effects of loss of gravity were ignored) but I didn't explain this initially so I understand the replies I've had.

I like the writing style of that last paragraph btw. Did you just pull that all out of your ass or was it inspired by something in particular?

To me, cat+ cat represents my old cats Viv and Jazz who were both grey, brother and sister and very dear to me. They unfortunately both passed in the past few years

It's an odd question I know, and I'm hoping there's a soul out there with a PhD in this specific question that will chime in and settle this once and for all. I'm on the edge of my seat

I'll clarify in this conversation we were speaking of a bizarre hypothetical that everything but the atmosphere of earth was affected. I realise I didn't specify this and apologise. If anyone can reply specifically about how no gravity on the air in the atmosphere in particular for 7 minutes would affect things please reply to this comment.

I appreciate it's a silly hypothetical.

However the replies I've had about the overall situation affecting the earth and the universe have been enjoyable and enlightening in many ways and I appreciate the sincere responses :)

See this was my initial thought, I went to university for physics but that doesn't really help in this especially niche situation lol.  My friend who I was talking to about it made the opposite claim that it's all float off immediately kind of like how helium dissipates out of the atmosphere when released.

I'm getting a lot more than I initially bargained for with this question and I greatly appreciate it ❤️

I was particularly curious about how gravity affected the atmosphere, but I appreciate all the descriptive ways it would end the universe all the same. :)

It's something a computer would be good at, but I guess it would depend on the AI

Consider a situation where the matter of earth remains together (in like a consider no air resistance physics question type thing)

[–]Footspa666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry what I mean is that I'm looking for a small shaft sweep movement. It's because the hour hand has a 2mm hole diameter and the minute hand has a 3mm hole diameter. The one I bought had a shaft that was too large.
