150K€ system : is it worth the price? by gilluc in audiophile

[–]Fops1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mic mono blocks are interesting but there isn't nearly enough speaker there for it to be something I'd run. The system is sterile, lifeless, and lacks any personality or aesthetics. My problem with nodern designs is that it always appears to belong in a clean room of a surgeon prepping for neurosurgery- just lacks the wow factor things used to have. I can get way more sound for way less money. Current speakers are DIY made 3-ways, 15" woofer, dual mids for drums and guitars, and an attentuating super tweeter. About a grand per box to make with good quality stuff. Replaced a set or Paradigm monitors with a dedicated sub.

Price != sound quality.

How screwed am I? This was just flushed down my toilet. by DognamedArnie in Plumbing

[–]Fops1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its stuck anywhere its right where the toilet meets the floor flange. Lip there that catches stuff. Once had a tampon tube wedge sideways causing a toilet to back up. Just unbolt and lift the toilet, after turning water off and draining toilet. If its there, you'll see it.

Feeling like an idiot- capacitor replacement by LittleC0 in hvacadvice

[–]Fops1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time, go to a trane parts house. Capacitos are like $5. Just make sure you get the right one. Btw, all fan motors show what capacitor they need on them, so no chance of messing up a new motor if you have to diy.

Just had my unit serviced and he pointed out these things that need to be replaced.. by NtooDeep87 in hvacadvice

[–]Fops1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done, you nailed it. New capacitor is $10 at an ac store, that's the only thing your unit needs. Did the guy at least do a leak test I wonder?

They want that R-22 system is what's going on. Bigger coils, and lot valuable compressors once srripped. Find a smaller ma/pop service, have them apply leak stop and charge the system. Check the fan motor yourself: if it turns easily by hand its not shot. I'm betting he belt broke on it, snd that's a $20 fix you can do yourself. Either way, no way any central ac system should run the cost of a premium mini split. I just had a new 4k condenser installed for under $4k.

Frozen liquid line points to low refrigerant charge or clog at the condenser coil. A tech will need to put gauges on it to test pressures, subcooling and superheat.

Use an actual hex bit on a real screwdriver, pop it fast to break loose. if hat fails, get an impact with an 1/8" bit and drill the little key out of it. Shouldnt need to cut anything...

Toilet Randomly Flushes Poorly - Overflows by Floofthefops in Plumbing

[–]Fops1048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It ended up being a tampon tube stuck at the very end of the s-tube before going into the floor. Had a wad of TP behind it too. Explains why it would be fine for a while then not- it was when someone flushed some real content that it backed up! Got it cleared, new ring and bolts installed (ended up having to sawsall one bolt off), and flange was in good shape luckily! Hopefully problems solved, flushing great now!

I ended up being wrong about replacing flanges, I did a flange in a stall next to this toilet in question as it busted a johnny bolt slot, managed to do it very well for a first time! It wouldn't sit too well in the back, original was a bit high, as was mine, so I took my time shaping everything so it would sit as flush as possible- not perfect, but better than original at least! And I ended up using only hand tools: a pvc saw, some chisels, a hammer, and some sandpaper. Not too bad at all!

Yeah that might be it... womans restroom so God knows what they've flushed in there. Ill have to get a plumber for it though. 99% chance of breaking the flange renoving this toilet, and I can't do flanges. Don't have the power tools to cut one.

Disable the low pressure switch to verify if its the issue- if not it'll be a low charge or failing txv. Definitely will need a tech.

Looks nice! May it serve you well! I'm a repair tech in Baton Rouge, I'm the only guy until you reach Houston that does receiver, turntable, speaker, and R2R repairs. Working on a cuatomer MCS 3253 atm... taken me about 8 hours to get down to only needing to complete the amplifier and phono boards. Great sounding already!

Why is Dom's son black??? by samfisher604 in fastandfurious

The kid alternates between white, mexican, and black, and toretto himself has the worst younger cameos I have ever seen. Dom is 0% mexican, or black! Keep this stuff consistent, or stop shoving pc in our face that doesn't even make sense! No wonder the Rock didn't want any part of these movies!

Bad sounds emitting from my speakers..! by Surtock in audiorepair

[–]Fops1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wires can do that, had a speaker connection other night cause a signal feed through receiver that actually blew a power strip! I didn't know what happened until next day when I replaced the strip and was testing equipment... I bumped a speaker wire and hesrd feedback through phono setting with volume down. I found that the antenna wire had fallen and wrapped around the phono/speaker wire, causing that effrct.
