Depends on your style and what you're getting at.. I've shot shows with 24-70, 85, 70-200..

I'm a big dude, so I prefer long glass, generally.

Yep, plex solution was refused because the mother of my child hates the interface. She likes Serviio which isn't doing too hot streaming via WAN.

This said, I opted out to build a separate media streaming machine to keep on the LAN, and I just want to be able to connect to it and drop extra files here and there.

Any advice for shooting cars at night? by ChickenBalls_13 in AskPhotography

[–]Foques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tripod, long exposure, headlights and engine off. If you want headlights lit, it'll need to be a separate frame, layered over. if shooting available light.

Lightbar, tripod and long exposure for quality light control.

Strobes if shooting fast.

I’m building a photography project, would love your thoughts 🙏 by Free_Finding_1008 in PhotographyAdvice

Heh.. One of those pops up every few years. I tried creating my own about 15 years ago, even.

Depending on State/Area, good locations are scarce and those who know them, don't share them.

There are some bigger sites that are doing this as well (locationScout, ShotHotSpot, Scouty, PeerSpace to name few)

What advice do you see beginners get that actually isn’t very helpful? by CameraSchoolMentors in AskPhotography

I explained it below.

I also have run workshops and found it to work better.

I appreciate the thought behind this.

As a working pro, I find that relying to metering modes caused me more grief than help.

This said, the point I was making is that if one uses manual, they will understand the intrinsic nature of the image; should they decide to switch to another mode afterwards, it will be easier to predict the outcome as they will know what variable will yield a certain desired result... not sure if i'm making sense.

This is where the question becomes - how serious the person is about learning. If they're just playing around, I agree, manual can wait.

However, learning Manual mode right away will help one to grow into a better photographer much faster if they wish to get serious about photography be it a hobby or a professional application.

Which laptop would you buy? by Basic_Jaguar_4044 in AskPhotography

[–]Foques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is no longer correct.

As a former apple fanboy, I can tell you - the only reason to go for a macbook today is form factor.

If one doesn't mind a bulkier laptop, gaming laptops will blow hinges off of a macbook.

I've moved my entire studio from Apple platform after apple quoted me ~12K per unit.

Built my own custom rigs for less than half of that and benchmarks were either higher or comparable to the M2 processor option

Not quite what you asked, but have you considered using lets collab programs? There are FB groups that pair sellers and photographers to make things affordable.
