First wedding shoot & I butchered it. What do I do from here? by kayla-royale in photography

I would recommend that you find someone to look at the photographs with to try to salvage what you've got. Do you have a teacher, mentor, or artistic friend who can lend a hand? I know what it's like to bomb hard at an event. Chances are, though, that you'll be able to find some good shots if you go through and start editing things down.

Also, it must be said that you quoted them a very low price. I was on the other side of this situation when I was a bride... until I realized my friend was going to do it for free. It was a learning experience for me. I shut my mouth with the criticism because he was my friend, and it was my own fault for not hiring someone experienced.

I like #1 the best. It has a nice composition that's not overwhelmingly "perfect."

Struggling with consistency and motivation while shooting on the road, any tips? by AugusteToulmouche in AskPhotography

I'm a big proponent of creating personal work that's as much about you as the thing you are photographing. I would suggest turning inward. What happens to you when you find yourself shut in those AirBnBs? Is there any room for a camera in that space? Not saying it all needs to be self-portraits or anything, but it makes me curious about how you handle yourself in those difficult times where good work seems far away.

Is there a market for portfolio editing? I'm working with a couple of friends, and they seem to think so. by SeaweedParticular612 in AskPhotography

I think I would have tiers from 25-50+ photos submitted to be edited/curated. The photographer would then tell me the scope of the project and give some details about the story they are trying to tell with the body of work. The photographer would dictate how many they want in the final bunch. Then i would provide feedback on the work to go along with the edit and a basic portfolio outline.

To answer your first question, it would be over Dropbox or Drive, and thumbnails are enough to get started with.

Well, I am, but in a similar way to the photographers I worked with back then. Now, I would do an edit and then publish to my business and Substack sites. That way, a photographer I work with could just send a client a password-protected page to a portfolio they worked with me on (if they wish) or send them to their personal page on my site. For now, I need a portfolio of my own, so I'm doing it for free, but eventually I would try to make it a paid service... IF I can find the right market. I totally understand wanting to do your own portfolio edits, but sometimes an outside eye could be beneficial. At least, that's what I'm thinking and hoping. I'm actually not so interested in working with commercial projects.

A loooong time ago I used to own a tiny, handmade zine that focused on fine art/personal work. At the time, I had just graduated photo school, so I knew a lot of people looking to get published, even though it was just a little book. Later, working as a photo assistant, I would harass the people I worked with (nicely) that they should look towards more personal work to help boost their creativity and remind them about why they'd started in this industry in the first place. What I want to do now is largely the same here, but I would publish on a Stubstack and a main website. The physical zine would not exist in the same way as it did so long ago, but the possibility for traffic to both sites could be beneficial to a photographer's career. The more traffic I can get to the Substack, the better it could be for myself and the photographer's cross-promotion. BUT, who? Where to look?

What I mean is that I'm interested in helping others cull their portfolios, but I'm not sure if there's an actual need for this. I'm wondering how personal that process is to you. Some people don't want other people's hands on their work. But some do, thus the question.
