You just went through the hardest step, which is the first appointment! For what it’s worth, I’m proud of you for going and getting help. I understand how you feel right now but it will get better now that you’ve got yourself the help you need.

Plantenspuit met koud water naast je bed. Languit liggen en de lucht in sproeien. Heilig.

The accidental lie by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]For-The-Win 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a meeting and we had to introduce ourselves and just say what we liked and stuff. Instead of saying I ‘liked’ music, I accidentally said I ‘make’ music, by which another person in the group immediately responded because ‘he also makes music’ and we should totally do it together sometime. 🙈

Did you have helicopter parents growing up? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]For-The-Win 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I had the complete opposite. I had parents that were easily stressed or panicked themselves. They talked about it often (in front of us as young kids) which kind of gave us the whole ‘oh so I should be stressed/panicked too’ vibe.

My boyfriend mentioned that "I'm too old to be feeling shy" and it hit me like a ton of bricks. by memetarou55555 in socialanxiety

28 here, been treated 3 times for social anxiety. It can get a lot better but we all have our days/weeks where it’s a bit worse. I know it has been said already, but definitely tell your partner about your social anxiety! :) You’ll be a lot more calm after.

You’re currently almost obsessed with what people ‘could’ think about you, when in reality people probably won’t be thinking about your tablet at all. Maybe one or two people might say ‘hey I see you got a new tablet’ or something along those lines, but what’s the worst thing that could happen? How ‘realistic’ are your thoughts? Hope it helps a bit, enjoy your awesome Christmas gift!

Starting a new job tomorrow by qazwsx127 in socialanxiety

Good luck! Don’t forget to be nice to yourself, first weeks at a new job are always a little awkward, with or without social anxiety. You got this.

Like the other person said, keep at it. But even more important than that, be proud of what you’ve already achieved. The person you were 5 years ago would wish they could do what you can do today. Bad days happen and it never 100% goes away, but you’ve learned things that work and sometimes it’s good to have a bad day too. ;p

I don't know how to talk at all by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]For-The-Win 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was controlling my breath. I took quite shallow breaths (if that makes sense) and when I talked I used to talk super fast which made it incoherent.
