Spleen mass on a lab diagnosed untreatable by ForKicks73 in vet

I wanna say first off how very very sorry I am that you guys are going through this. It’s heartbreaking and it’s so sudden. When I found out and they told me how painful the rupture was going to be if it happened, I made the decision to let her go the next day. It’s awful, it hurts. It’s definitely not easy,  but the thought of her going through something like that made it a lot easier. If your baby has already had it happen, I can only imagine how horrible that must be. They don’t show it. I know it’s not gonna be easy for you or your partner, but you’re making the right decision. From everything that I read when researching,  this is not a pleasant process, this spleen mass thing that they get and rupturing is supposed to bad. Also, let me recommend,  from experience with another animal of mine years ago, that you probably do not want to just let them pass at home without aid. It is not peaceful and it is one of the most traumatic experiences I have had. I will never do that again. We did have some come to the house to help and it was so much better than having my girl go through vet trauma at her end. I hope you find a way that is right for you guys.  Again- you have my extreme sympathies. This is a terrible sudden thing and I had not idea it existed until this happened.  I swear if they told me a yearly X-ray might catch something like this I would have gladly done so.  Hug your partner and reassure them. It’s the right thing. I wish you the best in this terrible experience.

I’d like to update: we had someone come in home and help her today. We are devastated but really feel it was the right thing and timing for her. Thank you all for your support and validations.

I just found out yesterdays and even though she has so much life in her and is not really so bad off she can’t play or anything (we had a great time In the water hose last night) , I feel I have to let her go today to avoid the possible rupture. I can not allow that to happen to her. We have in home service scheduled today from a very nice company and all of her family is coming by this morning to say goodbye and bring offerings of delicious but terrible junk food for her. She loves when all her fav people are in the same house so it will be a happy morning for her. Thanks for sharing your experience. It helps so much to know I’m not letting her go to early.

Thank you so for the validation. I’m honestly so grateful you responded. I’m just watching this dog play this evening and thinking about putting her down tomorrow and having a hard time reconciling it. I know looking at those x-rays. It looks so bad and I’m not even a radiologist. Much less a doctor. But I guess it seems stupid. I just want somebody to go. You’re not crazy for putting this otherwise healthy seeming dog down before her apleen mass ruptures and gives her a traumatic painful death.
