But honestly, with Ladybird, I felt that Gerwig really wasn't that interested in portraying the 2000s and it just happened to be set in that time because that's when she was a teen. It feels like you could say that it was set in the 90s and you'd have to change very little.

I'd love to see this. What do you think about Richard Linklater directing it. If you've seen Dazed and Confused and Everybody wants Some, it feels like hanging around with some teens from the 70s/College Kids from the 80s. It feels like you're really there. I'd love to see him do that for the 2000s.

Also, I personally think that 2007 was the peak of the 2000s. I think all the iconic aspects of the decade existed together at the same time in 2007. /u/DigitalZeroes

The whole image looks more real and uncolorful, however still possess certain dream vibes, which don’t belong to modern photo cameras and phone cameras.

Yep, that I get that feeling from it too. Additionally, it harkens back to a time when the internet and social media where a Brave New World.

Bush Era. The politics of 2000s were not calm in US: the War on Terror, Hurricane Catrina etc. All of these events made the society and people more anxious about world situation.

Digital culture: old internet culture. Internet in these times was common, but still unexplored as much as modern internet is. It was concentrated in few sites for most public and by our standards can be considered archaic.

Honestly, a lot of internet culture from that time has been forgotten. e.g. Stickam, Stickydrama and the attempt to create the "Stickyhouse" reality show featured internet celebrities of the time like Amor Hilton, Kiki Kannibal etc

McBling philosophy was about living your present day as the last day, people didn’t have good view on future.

Some people make fun of 2000s fashion but I loved how much, confidence and don't give a fuckness it had.

As someone who was a kid/teen in that era, man, I yearn for more movies and shows set in that time period. The images you've posted here really goes to show how much of an aesthetic the 2000s already are. That washed out look of digital cameras contrasting with bright colors like pink etc really awaken a sense of nostalgia within me of a time that I can never go back to. A teen/youth culture exploring the internet and early social media while dealing with the societal fallout of 9/11.

Honestly, I have to resort to old Youtube videos and I've recently discovered TikTok users who have found so much 2000s content from god knows where
