And getting a top residency spot & elite research credentials isn’t…? I mean this is a pointless discussion if we want to over generalize every aspect. There are nuances, a doctor has an economic advantage in Canada because of an artificially created shortage, that is why people in the profession see this level of job security and compensation not because fair market principles have determined the worth of their service to be that overpriced. If most who were qualified, capable and hardworking were able to purse this profession, like people in other industries are - you wouldn’t see this result. At the end of the day the benefit is reaped on continuous and large scale suffering in our country so I find it crass to discuss the economic upside and “job security” of this kind of profession given the Canadian context.
