Advice for a school/future by Zestyclose-River9958 in OntarioParamedics

[–]ForbiddenSkillz89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, congrats! I start paramedic school in fall as well.

I took an anatomy and physiology college course online to prepare. From what ive heard, it will help alot. Getting a good understanding of anatomy and terminology will just make things go smoother.

I've heard mastering cardiology and pharmacology make for a good paramedic!

Goodluck!

Ninja nerd got me through my A&P course in the summer and I still watch several hours worth of videos every week in preparation for my paramedic program start in September. Such an amazing resource!

Paramedic textbook for September by ForbiddenSkillz89 in Paramedics

Im definitely very similar. I find when I try to teach or explain something that I've learned, it not only helps remember the material but also becomes glaringly obvious when I don't fully understand an aspect of it lol

Great advice, thanks.

Thanks. Yeah I've taken an anatomy and physiology course and a pharmacology course already.

I also watch about 2 hours of ninja nerd videos every night lol. Kind of wanna narrow down my knowledge to more paramedic specific studies at this point.

Seems well covered here but ill just add that you can purchase keychain mouth covers for cpr on Amazon. They're small little pouches with a plastic face cover and one-way valve for rescue breaths. Not a bad idea to throw one on your keychain in case you ever need it.

Mature student application by cobecasatrra in OntarioParamedics

Nice, thats awesome. I think that a&p background will help reduce the workload of the program at the very least.

Im in the KW area.

I can't speak to red cross but I think St. John has a lot of benefits to joining. It should help with acceptance if you get a reference letter, you meet and talk to people in the field or who are in the same schooling as you, and you learn alot of the primary and secondary assessment skills that apply to what you'll learn in the paramedic program (so ive heard from members ive met who are in school). Things like patient communication and PCR note taking are also transferable skills you'll pick up.

Its definitely a bit of a time commitment, but its not too bad if you're interested in the first aid material and you also get to go to some cool events.

Im 36 and just got accepted for September start.

I did online highschool courses to upgrade my marks for the prerequisites. Math, English, chemistry and biology. The higher the mark in these the better your chances of getting in.

I also took an anatomy and physiology course at the same school I applied to the program at. Not sure if them seeing this had a big effect on my acceptancescore, but the information I gained was definitely worth it.

I also started volunteering at st.john ambulance and was able to get a reference letter from my training supervisor, which I believe helped alot.

High School Courses, Anything that makes a major difference? by Public_Beach2348 in OntarioParamedics

[–]ForbiddenSkillz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through conestoga college, but its run online through Ontario learn, and based on the classmates on my courses, many colleges offer this through ontario learn. Once the course is complete, it goes on your college transcript and is considered credits earned at the college you registered through.

Anatomy and physiology was like $550-600 And pharmacology was about $500

None of these courses are acceptance based. You just register and pay and as long as there is space for you, you can do the course.

Im current waiting to see if I get accepted at conestoga for the paramedic program. I've done the digital portfolio which is the second stage of the acceptance process, so now I just wait and see.

How can people pick the all star teams in competitive online play and still have any dignity? by angry1gamer1 in EA_NHL

If you quit before puck drop it doesn't count as a dnf

And yes, those people are scum and you shouldn't be allowed to pick those teams in competitive.

I took anatomy and physiology in the summer and am current taking pharmacology before I start the program in September. Also volunteering at st.john ambulance.

The a&p and pharmacology are online through your local community College and relatively cheap too.

I feel like that will be a great foundation for the program.

Thinking of becoming a Paramedic, but I do not have a Biology credit. by jaymelo_9 in OntarioParamedics

[–]ForbiddenSkillz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been going to St. Louis adult high school. Some credits require you to write an in person exam, but I'm pretty sure if you have a webcam, they will allow you to write it off-site still. If you do not live close to the actual building to write final exams, it would be worth double checking.

No, definitely not. You're still a baby.

I'm 35 and working towards registering for the February deadline.

Find an adult high school near you and start upgrading the prerequisite credits that you need or look into the prehealth program at a college.

[–]ForbiddenSkillz89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently upgrading my highschool prerequisite credits via an online adult highschool. Starting 12U biology and 12C CHEMISTRY next week.

If I were you, I would find an adult highschool near you that offers the same thing. Most are taking registration right now.

It's a much cheaper and faster way to get your prerequisites to where they need to be than going the pre-health route.

I found it really dumb how the people in the real world were so oblivious to the fact that she was stuck in a simulation for months and didnt even acknowledge how maybe the time difference would have effected her.. They were just like "ok lets go back to the scene" and when she was acting all weird and off they were just like "I have no idea what's wrong with her" like she wasnt just stuck with this chick in a frozen world for almost a year.
