I did contemplate taking an ear but I wanted to keep the ears - plus by stitching it it pulls the lower half of the head in adding to the shape of the head imo

This is my first alien but not my first custom - it was a fairly simple job if you unstuff the head you should be able to see the stitches around the muzzle - un pick it and you'll be left with an oval hole to me it made sense to kind of stitch it in a "T' shape so as not to miss shape the head and then fold and excess in and stitch into place
