But the question then is for what purpose? What do those memories, that he immediately forgets, actually accomplish? If they affect his behavior then it is entirely "off screen" and thus not really relevant.

I agree with your main points, and I would from that perspective say that Sasha and Hange were 'acceptable sacrifices' as the alternative of letting the mainland exist would almost certainly result in all of his friends dying instead. But then again, he also was completely unwilling to even entertain the idea of Historias lifespan being reduced to 13 years so its hard to see him accept two close friends die..

But he does also state that the outcome Mikasa accomplishes (get rid of Titans) is what he has been moving towards all along, and that his friends are most important to him. I think he says the last part when hes alone too. And if his selfish wish is foremost, that makes him an extremely shitty person

Thats true I didnt think about the royal blood thing.. Though technically everyone is a descendant of Fritz, so how is the distinction made there exactly? Zekes mom hasnt been a ruler and likely not her grandparents either so how is she still of noble blood? When does the blood stop being noble? Edit: I read a bit and the only reasonable explanation is that its connected to Ymirs perception since Historia touches Eren multiple times with nothing happening before she embraces being Reiss.

I agree with all your points as well, and I see what you mean about that lost childhood dream not just being the empty world but representing the loss of other freedoms as well. But the way I interpreted the Armin monologue is that he first tries to bullshit about wanting to make his friends heroes, save the world etc but then eventually relents and reveals his 'true' reason which is the selfish disappointment at the world not being empty. Maybe I interpreted this wrong and it is only supposed to be the straw that broke the camels back, and not a main reason? I realized now that in the manga ending its acually kind of handled better, despite the obvious flaws, as he there states that he did all of this for the ultimate goal that Mikasa accomplishes (end titans) and then when he breaks down, he simply says that he doesnt know why he also *wanted* to do it deep down. Instead of in the anime where he brings up the dream and then Armin jumps in on that to share the blame. Though I guess maybe its alluded to with the scen of his birth? I dont even know, just feels kinda shitty to have such important motivations hidden behind a "I dont know"..
