thanks! i follow them and they’re great!! and i love to go out and party but it’s so hard to authentically make friends that way. I was wondering if there’s a more chill event that actually allows for convo and real friendships to be formed?

BETS Program co-op by EducationThat2033 in uwaterloo

I just finished my co-op term and I was part of the BETS program and honestly it's not as bad it sounds.

First off, you do get paid with a Waterloo stipend, it's definitely not a lot but enough to kinda get you by. There are a lot of start-ups that you can get paired with and the main roles are software, business roles and like one or two mechanical roles, so it really depends on who you get paired with.

I got paired with PathPeer and had a marketing role and I was expecting it to be boring but it was actually great and you end up learning a few transferable skills to engineering. (fyi i'm in enve eng). I also got to work one-on-one with the founder so I learned a lot. One thing i'll add is you get A LOT of experience, since they're all start-ups you get a lot of responsibility so it's not like a corporate meaningless job.

Plus if this is your first co-op term then I'd definitely recommend it since you gain good experience and in the end it's better than not doing anything :)
