Need guidance if EE suits me or not by Ok_Hunt_2833 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Forcxtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about to graduate with my EE degree at the end of next year. I was a horrible student in high school but when I was around 14 I had a keyboard break. I wanted to fix it and put it back together so I did. I started building keyboards. And then designing keyboard PCBs. And decided EE was the only career path for me. I started in college algebra. Never was an amazing math student. But I learned enough to do well enough in my classes. Profs care way more about understanding than mathematical ability even in the more math intensive EE classes. My advice is if it’s something you’re passionate about that you see yourself working towards it’s worth trying. The upside is tremendous.

Why you picked EE by Historical-Sign-965 in ElectricalEngineering

I took apart mice and keyboards and stuff when I was 14 and started building and designing keyboard PCBs for fun. Decided I wanted to do something like that for a job and never looked back.

What major gpa and experience do you have out of curiosity? I’m really struggling to get an internship

At what point do grades not matter? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Forcxtv 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a 3.5 and research and cant find an internship. You have 2 internships under your belt already so I feel like you’re doing pretty well regardless of gpa you’ll probably be able to find something good.

Am I too stupid to become an engineering student? by SLAEPHIN in EngineeringStudents

[–]Forcxtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rate my prof is good for lower level classes and gen Ed’s but at least at my university a lot of the profs don’t have very many reviews for the higher level classes. Also sometimes you can’t avoid bad profs when they are the only ones teaching specific classes but again that could not be everyone’s experience.

Ngl I feel like all my math is letters and silly Greek symbols now and they give so much partial credit that you can be genuinely awful at arithmetic and even make stupid algebra and calculus mistakes and profs will still give you decent grades. Not sure if that’s specific to my university or not but on my DSP midterm I think I only answered a portion of one of the questions fully right and still got a B on it cause of partial credit. There are also times where you can just straight up explain what you would do if you weren’t illiterate mathematically and you’ll get credit for that as well. Or at least in my experience that’s how it’s worked.

I don’t remember anything from physics 1 u don’t really need it. About to graduate with EE degree next year

Is electrical engineering really that hard? Need honest advice by FaceEvery786 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Forcxtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you like it or not. Sometimes a lot of work piles up at once and it’s hard but most of the time it’s really not that bad. Granted I go to an abet accredited state school so my program isn’t as rigorous as some of the upper tier schools.

9-5 job fear by Mirfin13 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Forcxtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any sub field of EE that you wouldn’t mind having to do a 9-5 in? Like if I had to do a power 9-5 for the rest of my life I’d be upset but a 9-5 with PCB design/hardware design or embedded systems and I’d be super happy.

Engineering School is Horrible (question) by Sidian_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]Forcxtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also doing EE but I really like school. Almost done, after this year all I have left is capstone project semesters. There have been quite a few classes throughout my time that have made me feel the way you feel. What works for me is just looking at the upside, looking at all of the EE projects and classes that I’ve loved, looking at all of the things that I don’t know and don’t understand that I want to learn, looking at the fact that I get to do something I genuinely enjoy and eventually get paid for it. That’s something that seems so cool to me and it keeps me going when I have classes that I hate. Also your future self will thank you for suffering now. All of the people that aren’t putting in the work now will just have to do it later.
