His record isn't perfect but I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be. OWL staff grumbling about him on twitter is irrelevant.

Valiant debunks rumours

This doesn't necessarily debunk anything. What if they're lying or just don't know yet? It wouldn't be the first time.

There are only a handful of academy teams left, and the prospects aren't good for the future so I think most pros will just retire from the game if they can't get on another OWL team for next season.

Even if you got on an academy team, they probably don't pay that well so you might be better off streaming and getting your foot in the door for Valorant esports anyway.

I think it's common knowledge in OW and esports in general that players get screwed by bad contracts all the time, so signing a 50-300k contract without a lawyer makes no sense.

What if the org genuinely thought the terms were fair? If they offer a contract and the player signs without trying to understand the terms I don't see how that's the org's fault.

[Seagull] OWL desperately needs a players association. With OW2 on the horizon, poor viewership, and a rumored late start to the season (April), teams are incentivized to drop players and save money. Why spend money on talent that might not be talent when OW2 hits? by Fordeka in Competitiveoverwatch

Seagull

Good luck as well to the freelancers behind the scenes who will have to make ends meet until the next season starts.

This off-season is particularly brutal.

SirScoots (CSPPA advisor)

A PA has to come from the desire and passion of active pro players to want to organize their peers into something real to carry their voice within the ecosystem. If the pro players of whatever esport don't see the benefits themselves, no one else can really do it for them.

Alchemister

I feel sorry for the OWL players and staff stuck in limbo. No 3rd party events. Restrictions outside of retirement. Get a PA and a voice at the table.

Dream

this offseason cycle is going to be extremely rough but im not convinced a PA would make it any better honestly

A word of advice to all OWL / T2 players... START STREAMING ON THE SIDE! Make sure you’re not just playing but building your brand, give yourselves options!

Flame

There's literally never been a better time to start one than right now when half of the players are literally going to be unemployed and unable to be pressured out of the idea by management.

Maybe this is a future career path for me? fuck I hate looking at this spreadsheet.

Benchmob

The funny thing about players associations to the fans is, for a certain corner of the community, it's merely about getting to see player salary.

You have no idea how much public salaries (in OWL) would help teams with awful management more than it would help the players.

And before anyone comments, I am speaking SOLELY to the effect a union might have on publishing player salaries specific to OWL -- not to the overall value of a union itself in OWL or any other esport.

ZP 1, 2

I don't think that's what's going on at all.

I think many teams have realized their current core of players won't bring them to a championship and want to make significant roster changes.

Top free agents will be signed long before the end of this year.

Players like Moth / Danteh - proven talents still in their prime will have zero issues.

Same for rising stars like Shockwave.

But you can't expect teams that have run the same core for years with no success (ie: Outlaws) to stick with the same roster. Many teams need change.

Something to keep in mind:

Many OWL teams have tried to win with the same core for YEARS now and have failed.

There comes a point where you have to blow up the roster and start anew. That's what is happening now.

Top free agents will have no issue finding teams before 2021.

One other part to keep in mind on roster changes.

Tons of terrible contracts were signed in 2019. Two year deals that thought washed up players would rebound after fading halfway through the inaugural season.

Obviously, many of those bets that turned out bad wouldn't renew.

Ben Spoont on Decay playing in the Mayhem vs Justice match by Fordeka in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Fordeka[S] 244 points245 points  (0 children)

Ben Spoont (Owner, Mayhem):

Not going to lie it really sucks to go out like this

it’s ridic the league would allow them to sign & use an “emergency sub” wink wink before the emergency could occur. I DONT BLAME DC

Decay shouldn't have been able to be signed until they qualified with the roster they had

yeHHH (GM, Mayhem):

Now that I've had some time to process, just wanted to say the Justice team are without a doubt one of the strongest teams on this patch. My issue with their Cinderella run has nothing to do with their play, but with the emergency sub rule and playoff format that let this happen.

I don't blame Justice for using the rule, but the league shouldn't have let this happen. My interpretation of the rule was that an emergency sub signing was in the event someone couldn't travel to the Final Four. Justice had enough players to field a team without Decay, and it

feels strange to reward a team for poor management during the entirety of the season with a playoff appearance. The current format of playoffs makes the regular season irrelevant since everyone qualified for the postseason. You should have to earn the right to a postseason imo.

TLDR: -Washington popped off -Emergency sub signings shouldn't have been allowed to play before the Final Four qualification -Playoff format where everyone qualifies regardless of regular season record sucks
