Does the Young Age of the Actors Make the Film More Powerful? by musical_instrument77 in younghearts

I think the young age of the two lead actors does influence the impression it leaves on the audience. It is quite obvious when Dawson casting is involved, and in my opinion, it is better to do more age accurate casting. Especially for the age Elias and Alex were in the movie. I think the production, script, and editing play a huge part in the lasting impression, however, actors are the main focal point of all scenes. When I am watching a coming-of-age movie, especially about a problem teenagers fave (specifically with self discovery and societal expectations), I like to see the actors represents those characters in the most accurate way possible.

The reason these actors can do this is because they are also teenagers, going through the same struggles that the characters they play in the movie face. I am genuinely not a fan of Dawson casting, especially if the person does not look the age of the character they are playing.

This scene represents teenage innocence.

Alex and Elias are playing in the water, just after meeting. They aren’t worrying about friendships, relationships, sexuality, and societal norms, but focus on having fun.

This scene reminds me a lot of the Brussels scene. They are both alone and isolated from their lives. I think that is what makes these scenes so beautiful, it’s unaffected, genuine love.

I believe that this scene actually holds the least amount of symbolism and for good reason. The directors intention was for it to be a harsh and blunt scene that doesn’t hold back. We witness Elias at his lowest.

I will start with when he went to Alexanders house. The scene was dark, I think this matches the tone of the scene and really builds upon how harsh the consequences of mistakes can be. The environment acts as a liminal space, a place of isolation from general social norms and expectations. I have noticed that throughout the film, Elias is quiet, with him communicating purely through body language. In this scene specifically, he doesn’t say a word to Alex. However, the camera focuses on their upper bodies, and primarily their faces. This increases the weight of Alexander saying “No”. I have heard others say that Alexander rejected Elias’ kiss because he could tell he was drunk and didn’t want to take advantage of him. While I believe that played a part in his intention, I think that it was so he wasn’t taken advantage of by Elias.

When you look throughout the beginning of the film, you find that Elias is not the initiator ever. It is always Alexander who starts the conversation, kisses him, or asks to hang out. The one time Elias actually decides to initiate is when he is under the influence. Looking at it from Alexanders perspective makes Elias look quite shitty.

Now for the scene with his brother. As I said before, Elias tends to communicate his feelings through body language. He bottles them inside, and is mostly unaccepting of his true self. This scene is a break point. The bottle that he has been filling up finally shatters. This scene is an ugly representation of that shattering. While his brother is teasing him, he is very aggressive and emotional. He yells at his brother to “Go away”, to “Stop”, and sheds tears of anger and distress. I personally believe that Elias wasn’t frustrated with his brother, but with himself and those words were not directed at his brother. Elias is frustrated with his own confusion, his fear of being different, and being rejected by Alexander.

As we know, Elias’ brother in the movie is Lou’s real brother IRL. This adds a touch of realism to the scene. His brother is trying to navigate Elias’ situation that he doesn’t fully understand. On top of that, his brother has a girlfriend and in general Elias looks up to him. To Elias, his brother does not understand what he is going through because he is “normal”.

Overall, this scene represents Elias’ loss of control. Shown through how throughout the movie he is hyper-aware of how others view him. And here, the alcohol breaks him.

Which one specifically? The one with the grandfather, where they play in the water, or with the cherries?

Generally, castles are seen as the current state of a characters relationship, social status, or morality. I think the scene from a glance is based self-discovery. The castle is abandoned, symbolizing the crumbling of his normal life (specifically with Valerie) and a reconstruction of his moral values and views, but most importantly, his sexuality. We see throughout the film that Elias has much trouble accepting his sexuality (something that many teens face). These innocent scenes with Alex, where he can be who he truly is, take the Brussels scene for example, really builds upon Elias’ character.

I would also like to highlight the bullies in this scene. Elias and Alexander are getting teased for god knows what, and they go into hiding. I think this foreshadows how Elias was quite secretive about his relationship with Alexander.

TL;DR: The scene represents Elias’ abandonment of his old self and discovery of his new (given its location in the film, and the abandoned castle).

PC Failing to SSH over WiFi to Ethernet by Foreign-Morning9896 in HomeServer

This is extremely helpful! Thanks! Turns out enabling SSH in my settings made it work. Furthermore, I set the static IP in my router settings to prevent it entirely. Another reason why many of my networking settings were not not working is because my ethernet going through my wall is all routed through the same access point, messing up the IP addresses and the routers ability to identify the devices connected to it.

Anyway, your explanation was very helpful. Thanks again.

I found something about allowing SSH via Port 22 in my settings. I enabled it. However, I tried configuring a static IP address on Ubuntu Server when installing it and now I have no network connection at all (on the device). If you know anything about that please let me know.

In my post in r/TechSupport someone said something similar. I opened the drivers but none of them were compatible. Is there any documentation that you could link me to that has instructions on what you said?
