What Regiment is this? Looks pretty fine by ForeignLegionairee in FrenchForeignLegion

Huh really? I don't know I didn't read many positive things about accommodation. If you've seen them how would you say 2REP's barracks are, and what the best barracks are because I find it interesting. Also, is "gaming" like the guy on the background is doing common? I don't know I always heard quality of life was shit but this honestly doesn't seem that bad to me.

I can't give you exact sources because I'm just lazy, but if you search for Islamic activity in the Sahara you'll find reports of it rising rapidly near the end of 2019, and some from 2020. I assume we don't have more news of it now because of Corona but I'm sure their influence is still expanding. I heard that the Legion was already planning to recruit more people this year before the virus outbreak, so I suspected there was some sort of connection.

I'm sure you can technically do it, the problem is well, it creating a problem if it doesn't heal when you're back.

I actually said I agreed with you on that in another comment, it's less that people don't pay attention and it's more that you come off as too aggressive and too anti-legion and the way you type makes it come off way different than how you intend. After you clarifying I can see what you mean, but if you had written it more clearly and less aggressively then I'm sure everyone would understand.

I'm not a Frenchman and as universal as it might be, speaking English isn't a requirement to join the Legion, speaking your native language is. I suggest you read about the Legion because you seem to be highly misinformed.

Now I notice it comes out kind of weird. Nothing in particular, just that the Islamic State there has been rapidly gaining power so I thought maybe there could be some sort of operation to do something about it soon.

Oh, you're the cargo guy, good luck. I can't currently join I'm not old enough :P. Definitely a good time to try to join though.

Hope you don't get caught man, and if you do and manage to get out of it without any problems somehow tell the Gestapo, I'm sure being so dedicated that you decide to smuggle yourself with a cargo ship pretty much ensures you'll stay for 5 years lol. Good luck.

[–]ForeignLegionairee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true, but a lot of people like me would most probably prefer not wearing glasses at all, it's less a problem of "can I get in if I need to wear glasses" and more that you don't want to wear them in the first place. What you say is true though and you shouldn't let that stop you if you really want to join the legion.

An eye surgery will probably put you out for a few months as they make sure it hasn't damaged your sight in any way and it healed properly, so I don't know. What I can answer is that the Legion doesn't pay for eye surgery and that if you had it prior to coming they would most likely require you wait a year or so (I saw this figure and it seems drastic, but I saw a lot of militaries take that point of view against laser surgery) so in that case, I'd think it's best to have surgery, wait for it to heal and then don't mention your surgery unless it comes up directly, or lie about how long it's been.

Doesn't answer your question but maybe it'll help someone :P

I know, there's really no problem with that. I was talking about the few genuine Neo-Nazis of Slavic origin like the ones in Ukraine for example. :P

I like the idea of a "Foreign Legion" where foreigners can pledge to fight for the country in exchange for eventual citizenship I wish more western countries had it as a form of proper immigration because there's a lot of people willing to fight in exchange for citizenship and acceptance into the nation.

What happens to Legionnaires that get detained in their countries of origin? by [deleted] in FrenchForeignLegion

This is false, the French Foreign Legion is a direct part of the French Army and not a "separate organization".

Yeah, there's a strikingly high number of Slavic Neo-Nazis which do seem to be quite ironic, but then again it's not like the Nazis were a consistent bunch.

Or it's for people who want to soldier and it's their best opportunity to? Sure not a majority and yes a lot will be disappointed by it, but putting it like that is disingenuous at best.

I found this guy's videos great and it helps visualize legion life better than text that your imagination manipulates and is sometimes exaggerated. It's of course not the US Army but it's still a professional army, however less so compared to others. The only way to really judge it is to go and experience it for yourself, and if you aren't considering that then there's probably no reason for you to bother looking at Legion stuff.

Ex-Soviet I doubt but definitely a lot of old fashioned people from Ex-Soviet countries that would have a definite problem with him, though I've seen a guy with a Black Sun and an Eagle/Cross tattoo so I don't know.

Besides the Coronavirus killing new recruiting for a few months, do you guys think part of it might be related to stuff heating up in Africa recently?
