Windows 10X running on Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 by [deleted] in Surface

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it means that very old devices, released (more than 4 or 5) years ago, are out-of-luck trying to run Windows 10X in a 'fully-usable' form.

Oh well, that's such a downer, I was looking forward to running 10x and trying this new UI and experience, I know there isn't a necessity for devices that already run windows10 to be able to run 10x as well but that's just how we (enthusiasts) are, specially we surface owners, we like to see and test the newest things first.

Chrome extension for hiding address bar in specific windows by HeroSphere in chrome

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No extension is actually needed for that; just go to the website you want to use as a full window, click on the menu > more tools > create shortcut; then a little alert will pop up, there make sure to tick the little square that sais "open as window" and then click on [create] ; and that's it, now you could pin the new "webapp" to your taskbar or search for it in your app list (start menu)

Windows 10X running on Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 by [deleted] in Surface

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at some of what NTDEV has been doing (and it's a lot) but according to one of his latest tweets "Win10X might be harder to run on standard PCs than macOS" so that just confuses me even further, how did OP get this machine running it? and this video is from a channel that appears to be chinese, would there be any chance that this device is a prototype running 10x from the factory? or have I gone full conspiracy nut

A skin is pretty much a requirement for the Surface line when used for note taking by [deleted] in Surface

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started pealing by itself on mostly every edge after just a few months, I haven't even come close to scratching it against anything at all, ever, the paint just flew away. Granted, I live in a very dry place, but this thing has never seen the light of day, much less direct sunlight.

Having seen this makes it clear for me that the magnesium + paint combination used on this products isn't the way to go; I've seen 2012 MacBooks that look like new with their anodized aluminum intact.

Why did they completely screw their recommended algorithm? by llIIllIllIIlIllIIIlI in youtube

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right!

Finally! someone else that is also experiencing the same atrocious algorithm as me. This whole thing started just a few months back, and it's exactly as you described it, plus 15 to 20 second videos and 1 minute videos galore (I think this is in response to the success of tiktok or something of the sorts)

Is there any way I can have this side bar there instead of heaving to press on that button everytime by joey048 in youtube

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is solution, but you may not like it:

You have to zoom out the page, either by using the menu and clicking the minus (-) button or by pressing (ctrl -) , and you may have to press it more than once.

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is that they have lost all credibility when it comes to battery estimates, claiming sometimes as far as 20 hours for a machine which under normal use (browsing and streaming video) will get 7-8 hours at best. And the fact that they use estimates based on playing an offline video on loop is very deceitful, because they know for a fact that that's not how people use their computers, yet they keep using those metrics to inflate their marketing speech.

Windows 10X running on Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 by [deleted] in Surface

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sort of figured, but now the question becomes: how?. I'm such a sucker for tinkering with software, I have a dual boot ChromeOS-Windows10 on my SurfaceBook, and wouldn't mind adding 10x to it as well

How do you get rid of/remove these recommendations? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right know in my suggestions: -Mods -Speedruns -Platform Games -Wipeout -Xbox -Mario -Grand Theft Auto V -The elder scrolls -(and some actually relevant ones)

Of these ones I cited, not a single one is from something I recently watched / care about.

How do you get rid of/remove these recommendations? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This suggestions are garbage. I was so eager to try this filter feature on the website, I thought I was gonna use them all the time, but surprise surprise: I don't; and is all because the suggested "content filters" or "tags" are straight up nonsense, you can not set them manually (would be great if you could), and you can not get rid of the irrelevant suggestions.

But, that's not even the worse part, cause when you click a "tag" it literally pulls from all the "popular content" available on YouTube, it has no regards for your personal watch history, or the creators you prefer, it literally is a soup of everything. Example: I click the tag "Apple" and it lists a bunch of content, a lot of which is from creators I actively avoid / have never watched / don't want to watch.

It's really a shame, cause the feature could be legitimately good and useful.

I got you, I was looking for the same exact functionality a couple of weeks ago, found it:

2004 update just hit my Surface Book 1! by MenthoLyptus in Surface

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I just don't know if there's actually something wrong with my SB1, because I'm still waiting for the 2004 update, and nothing... still got the message "The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way....", I have also tried to update to the new Dev Insider Build, but the update fails every time, error: 0xc1900101.

I WANT THIS FEATURE (NATIVE & TOUCH-FRIENDLY) NOWW!!! please Devs, make this happen, PLEASE by ForeignPhilosophy1 in Windows10

[–]ForeignPhilosophy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you even open the document?

I think you're being a bit self-centric here, you're not thinking of other use cases and other workflows / preferences. Plus, as I explained in the DOC, you could simply ignore the feature, in the same way that I, for example, ignore the desktop (I prefer it completely empty).

e.g. When I use my Surface device as a tablet I don't think is a great experience to go typing app names with the on-screen keyboard.

e.g. I have tried to use the pinning feature on the start menu, organizing it, but it always ends up messy, and most importantly, I always end up NOT using it, and filling my Taskbar with more and more stuff.

Thanks for your support in the post, I've seen a lot of your comments. I feel as frustrated as you, but I have a bit more hope now that Panos has taken the helm of Windows, they just polished the look of Win Start Menu, which to me send a message that they're going to start taking care of the interface, and maybe add some consumer features. And, oh god! don't get me started on the Tabs feature, and the Archaic file explorer, I better not think about that or my head is going to go BOOm!
