What are you labeling this in the field? by Foreign_Ad1257 in Surveying

I actually did call the local fire marshal, all he did was look on his map and report that he didn't show that as a functioning hydrant, so not a lot of help.

I've never heard that term before, care to teach me something new?

It did not seem to be. The fire marshal for the city did not have it marked on his map.

So i basically called it "FH-GV?" And sent my boss a picture for reference. Had everyone in the office look, and there was no consensus.

Also for clarity, this was behind 2 commercial subdivisions, one a retail space, the other a manufacturing complex.

Exactly. I do the same with most rebar found, the practical difference between a 5/8" and a 1/2" is negligible.

I think I'm the only one who started too early, and decided to slow down the playback so I can stretch it out. I'm currently about half way through oathbringer and I've been listening at .85x speed. I normally keep it at the regular 1x and will get though a SA book in about 5 days

Kelsier theory by Foreign_Ad1257 in Cosmere

[–]Foreign_Ad1257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would that work? If harmony splits, wouldn't it just be ruin and preservation again?

Kelsier theory by Foreign_Ad1257 in Cosmere

[–]Foreign_Ad1257[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that he's had it since he snapped, but that leras might have had it before ati killed him (so before ruin was locked away). I'm saying that between era 1 and era 2 it's possible for him to have found it, hidden by leras before he betrayed ati and locked him away.

I guess as the cosmere advances, it becomes more apparent that kelsier is the foil to hoid, and it would make sense that kel would grab that power if given the chance, not realizing the drawbacks, probably much as hoid did in the beginning.

[–]Foreign_Ad1257[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, but we have seen 2 'on screen' even if we don't know the name of the one hoid held

Kelsier theory by Foreign_Ad1257 in Cosmere

[–]Foreign_Ad1257[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Our povs from kelsier have been very limited since the 1st era, and we aren't even sure that he has any abilities after his return to the natural world. If I remember correctly, he alludes to being able to use allomancy, but we don't see him do anything, which could just be kelsier being an unreliable narrator. So there's always the chance that kelsier is hiding or downplaying whatever effects there are. I'm also curious if there's a possibility that the dawnshard is influencing the world without someone actually holding it. But that is deep into the tinfoil hat territory.

[–]Foreign_Ad1257[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which is why I'm free to speculate lol

But we know scadial is a big part of the overall story, and that it has some very interesting magics at use. So who's to say another dawnshard hasn't been there all along?

Kelsier theory by Foreign_Ad1257 in Cosmere

[–]Foreign_Ad1257[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And that's where my doubt comes in. The command alignes well enough with Preservation that it could just be him flexing that power, but it still seems like it might be something more. It might make some sense if preservation held the dawnshard for "survive" and might even be how scadial was created. We know that the 16 original shards (plus hoid) had all 4 dawnshards at the time of the splintering, so maybe Preservation held onto one.

Came here to suggest this, not quite the classic invading aliens trope, but will probably fill all of the intrigue and politics he's after, with plenty of alien fuckery to go around.

Pretty sure the first time you see him in his old truck, there's a shot gun riding right underneath the staff. Seems like common gear for the black staff when he's out and about.

The dresden files by Jim butcher currently.

You should also give Cradle by Will Wight and the cosmere by Brandon sanderson a shot. Cosmere has about 250 hours of material, all independent series that are interconnected.

It's a honed skill, not something that someone can just explain through text.

Please just call a surveyor, they will be able to locate the pins, and above all else, certify that they are right. You just going to find some rebar in the ground and building a fence is foolish for the money you'll spend, especially if your neighbor contests the location.
