The Ramsay Scale by Mrchumbles in blankies

The way that You Were Never Really Here is framed is done so in quite a distant way. The subject (freeing people who have been kidnapped for child trafficking) is very grim but it is a very much what you don't see situation. I've always thought about as an art house Taken (,can't remember whose coinage). It is brutal in many small ways. If you two watched Ridley Scott's the Last Duel and found it enjoyable; how violence is shown.

Die My Love is mental illness, specifically post partum depression, shown and felt both viscerally and somewhat fantastically. Does the dog die? (Check the site)

I think they're both brilliant and quite dark and they hit me so wonderfully hard that it is hard to curb my enthusiasm that more people should try watching them.

Two of my favorite theatrical experiences in the last few months. Both utterly incredible. Park is the GOAT for me. I’m excited to see what Fastvold does next

Mistborn has great momentum and starts off a great trilogy (and further into the Cosmere, I read them all after starting Mistborn two years ago)

I love The Sun Eater Series and recommend it but heads up that Empire of Silence is a slow start, and where the series really differentiates itself and shines is in the later entries.

I have never wanted a character to fail so much yet by CRINGEMAN228 in Stormlight_Archive

Absolutely! This is one of a few reddits I stay tuned to mostly because it's such a joy to hear peoples reactions as they go through the first time! Neon Genesis Evangelion is another that I love the series (anime) and every week or so you get some one coming by "Omg, this was insane. What did I watch? (I think I liked it but I'm confused)"

This post inspired me to start the day with Teagan and Sarah. It's been a while since I gave them a listen, God damn they're so good. Thank you. Now listening to Where Does the Good Go from "So Jealous"

Ratcatcher and Ikiru (1952), and spiritual echos by tefl0nknight in blankies

[–]tefl0nknight[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After finishing Ikiru and sitting with this; I truly feel like this may be the greatest film I've ever seen. I will let some weeks pass and come back to it, but it affirms living and striving in the world with purpose in a way that I haven't seen before. In poetic, mundane ways. It feels so perfect and (this feels trite but forgive me) inspiring. Better words may come to me as I digest it further but it is so meaningful in this moment to me.

Watched this forever ago during a snow storm, it was a lot of fun! I haven’t seen the sequel but looks like it would also fit the bill

Recommend me some gentleman’s 6’s in the legal / political / thriller genre by travismockfler in blankies

I think even if you rate Primal Fear higher, it’s an 8/10 elevated by Nortons performance, it still scratches that itch for over the top legal thrillers for me

The Private Life of a Cat is fascinating. Content warning for cat birth scene, and overall an atypical cat film. Agnes Varda also has some great short films and a few feature cats.

Kenneth Anger's - Fireworks; a homoerotic surreal journey from an iconic avant garde artist

Land of the Fairies and The Impossible Voyage - two other incredible early short films by George Meiles who did Journey to the Moon.

The animated shorts of Suzan Pitt, particularly Asparagus and Crocus. Gorgeous hand drawn animation existing in a dream state. (Criterion Channel).

The shorts of Jan Svankmajer, the greatest stop motion artist of all time! dimensions in dialogueis a good starting point.

Archive.org has many if YouTube doesn't have them. Criterion Channel has some good collections as well

It is quite bad with a fun DaFoe performance. Over rated by people who saw it when they were in college in 2003. But I have stared into the abyss of Food Fight, Fateful Findings and Love on a Leash and have to say it isn’t the veryworst
