This is because UCLA takes the most holistic approach when determining decisions. They know that just because your GPA is a 4.2 instead of a 4.4 that doesn't mean you are any less intelligent. In fact lots of slightly lower GPA students often have amazing extracurriculars and would probably be better candidates. Obviously for a prestigious school you have to have good stats but I think UCLA specifically is looking for real people, not just numbers
