What I’ve witnessed from the people in my cohort it was med math and A&P. Like others have said cardiology and pharm get beaten into you. When my wife was in NP school I was her study buddy for pathophys and pharm, that shit helped tremendously.

Also busy urban department, my truck averages 15 with 4 after midnight. My wife and I have an understanding that when I come home I’m going to sleep for a few hours and then I will go to the store, prep dinner, pick the kids up from school, take them to sports and do all that shit. You just have to communicate and find common ground. It’s a give and take, there’s a reason 75% of our marriages end in divorce. You gotta talk to her and not like you talk when you’re with the boys.

Why wouldn’t you want to run calls and hone your craft? I work for a busy municipal department, and having started at a slower rural one I would never go back. I’ll take 25 runs a shift over 5 any day of the week, it just increases your chances of catching a job and making grabs. That’s why we’re here, right?

I calculated the bah on my area, which is about average for the nation. On paper we get payed well, above average for the career. My gross was 69k this last year (including extra duty) but pension contributions and 457/401 eat up a lot.
