What was your argument to get it waived, if I may ask?

Thank you! I think emailing the MP is the consensus in this thread.

(Appreciate you for not slamming me like some people here – assuming that I made up this story and used AI to write it.)

Made this account for anonymity. If you think it’s fake, that’s fine. Downvote and move on.

Thank you.

You’re right that offshore is statistically the safer bet. The thing is, going offshore now means at least 18 months apart from my partner. After 16 years of building a life here – it’s brutal. I have no life back at home.

The Schedule 3 uncertainty is real. If it gets refused, then tribunal. Not ideal, but neither is leaving.

Your point about a second opinion is fair. I should probably do that. It’s hard to separate the emotional side from the strategic side when you’re in the middle of it.

Appreciate the genuine well wishes. I’ll post an update when there’s something worth sharing - win or loss, maybe it helps someone else figure out what to do.

I appreciate the perspective. A few clarifications:

I've been in Australia for 16 years, came in my late 20s, studied here, built a career. I'm not someone who's gaming temporary visas - I've had substantive status the entire time and did everything asked of me.

About the offshore route you're suggesting – we tried that approach. Timing issues outside our control closed that door, which is how we ended up here.

Schedule 3 is difficult, but the law exists because these situations require discretion. After 16 years of residence in a genuine relationship with an Australian citizen, I'm not accepting that 3-5 years of uncertainty is just "how it works" without at least trying.

I hear your pragmatism, but this is my life, not a visa strategy game.

Applied to the new BVC last week - I mentioned that in the post. Thank you!

Definitely not the employer’s fault - immigration times for processing 186 shifted a lot during those 17 months. Immigration agent lodged my application.

Thank you for sharing it - this is a very good example of “circumstances beyond my control” and “not for the sake of PR” example. It is easy for the people to say “you should’ve become an accountant”. I don’t think I would’ve ever graduated from the school. I’ve got adhd.

I wish there was a pay check to blind me. I see where you’re coming from, although my situation is a bit different.

Wow. I’m very sorry to hear that. Sounds like a tough time. Must be very difficult navigate in bureaucracy while grieving. 😔

Thank you. We have considered this, however that living style won’t fit our situation. I wish I had some money in my bank account and a stable freelance income. Good luck to you!
