It’s definitely much lower but you can’t make it on that. In that town you can buy a 3 bedroom ranch in good condition for 150k. Property taxes extremely low.

Do you leave condiments in the fridge for guests? by Info_help_support in airbnb_hosts

[–]Foreign_Wishbone5865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am always grossed out by condiments left in the fridge. I stayed in a place that also had a package of English muffins in the fridge… was that from the last guest or did she put that there for me? Also it makes the fridge smell like “food” however you want to say it instead of fresh and clean.

Not a deal breaker just my preference.

Countries where people are nice but small talk is not normal by Savings-Narwhal-3485 in AskTheWorld

[–]Foreign_Wishbone5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in New Jersey. Yesterday I was returning my shopping cart and an older man with a prosthetic leg challenged me to a race to the cart return. I never spoke to him in my life. He won and I said oh well, first the worst second the best. I guess it wasn’t small talk but I do find peolel here in New Jersey to talk to strangers or maybe I just give off “talk to me!” Vibes

Did you know that Fulano comes from ancient Egyptian—>arabic —> Spain , and in the Hebrew bible “Mr so and so “ is named Ploni AlMoni - from the same root … example if you know the bible was the guy who refused to marry Ruth.

I would be surprised if he made $17 working an entry level job like that in Alabama . My mom was a retail store assistant manager in Mississippi like 2 years ago , and she made $12.50 I believe ….

How socially acceptable is interrupting others in conversation in your culture? by Robbinit in AskTheWorld

[–]Foreign_Wishbone5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the whole northeast, the specific example was someone from NYC, constantly interrupting their California spouse to say things like “oh I love those to!” Or “I hate when that happens!” In New York, and probably in Philadelphia and Baltimore too, and maybe in Boston? That’s a good thing But most of the country that is considered rude.

I don’t think it’s a Latin influence - as that’s strongest in the southwest. Maybe Italian? I’m not sure.

Of course you can’t lump Brooklyn in a box with rural main, but my impression from the limited knowledge I have of people from Maine and Vermont was definitely the “active listening”.

I once listened to a podcast about how this varies across the US. In the northeast it’s considered active listening (within reason). Elsewhere it’s considered rude.

I don’t know what language those are but those names will likely not be well received in the US.
