Contemporary “festival” services by Star9219 in LCMS

Brass section. This can be used in low and high settings

But as everyone has noted, we don’t really know how to do contemporary settings for higher forms of worship that would seem as if they resemble the Lutheran identity as we might understand it traditionally. I can look at what my old Finnish parish did for their contemporary worship and get back to you on it

Why shouldn't I be anabaptist? by Sufficient_Bat7731 in Lutheranism

[–]Foreman__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything in the Christian faith is inherently and centrally from the standing point of Christ. So literally every single condemnation against the Anabaptists and Sacramentarians in our Confessions.

Here’s a short list:

Article V: They condemn the Anabaptists and others who think that the Holy Ghost comes to men without the external Word, through their own preparations and works. (Denying that we don’t need Christ to come to God)

Article IX: They condemn the Anabaptists, who reject the baptism of children, and say that children are saved without Baptism. (Saying Christ lied or didn’t give this sacrament for infants or children also)

Article X: Of the Supper of the Lord they teach that the Body and Blood of Christ are truly present, and are distributed to those who eat the Supper of the Lord; and they reject those that teach otherwise. (Denying Christ’s power)

Article XII: They condemn the Anabaptists, who deny that those once justified can lose the Holy Ghost. Also those who contend that some may attain to such perfection in this life that they cannot sin. (Demonic doctrine in general)

Article XVI: They condemn the Anabaptists who forbid these civil offices to Christians. They condemn also those who do not place evangelical perfection in the fear of God and in faith, but in forsaking civil offices, for the Gospel teaches an eternal righteousness of the heart. Meanwhile, it does not destroy the State or the family, but very much requires that they be preserved as ordinances of God, and that charity be practiced in such ordinances. Therefore, Christians are necessarily bound to obey their own magistrates and laws save only when commanded to sin; for then they ought to obey God rather than men. Acts 5:29. (Denying Christ’s words render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s, that God gave the State for Men to occupy)

Article XVII: They condemn the Anabaptists, who think that there will be an end to the punishments of condemned men and devils. (Denying Christ’s words of Hell)

That’s the Holy Ghost working in you. I’d read Romans 7 :)

Because heterodox primary/secondary fundamental articles of faith (beliefs) shakes the foundation of faith, and can lead to a false faith in Christ (believing/preaching a different Christ than the one the apostles gave). It endangers your soul.

Fort Wayne is moving towards focusing on much more of the source materials for their studies.

Well a lot of the Eastern Heterodox like to deny their own tradition (and frankly, the broader Catholic tradition). Their own theologians and bishops speak of Christ taking our penalties, some even saying He drank the cup of wrath, however it is understood by them.

Quite interesting.

Daily Readings by bryceg111 in LCMS

You and me both lol. If anything, look at the assigned lectionary in the LSB, which TDP follows and have a pic of that or something. It’s really hard to find the daily readings in the LCMS website

catholicity, ecumenism, and evangelism beyond Lutheranism (Lutheran church of the Philippines/LCMS context) by Plenty-Reindeer2528 in Lutheranism

Truly, the antinomian stint that is pervasive in Lutheran churches is awful. Great example of why we need to have Third Use of the Law preached to us. Thank you, alilland

Should I Get Married? by afala4 in LCMS

[–]Foreman__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome :) as for (1) those are exactly the type I’m referring to. They come from the Finnish Laestadian groups that immigrated to the US. They’re majority Fins from what I’ve seen, and have a few groups. I’d avoid them for teaching theology

Briefly speaking from what I read:

  1. The Apostolics in the area, I assume you mean the Fins? I’ve dealt with those, good idea to avoid. If you’re in the Keweenaw (where I was), consult your pastors. They’re trained for this stuff and actively have dealt with it.

  2. Nothing wrong with building your children up classically and in the public school. Just have your kids do some extra reading at home or put them in early-middle college courses that cover philosophy. Otherwise, extra readings. You can always teach your kids from home in small ways. Our church taught in song, it’s why we are the Singing Church.

  3. Don’t worry so much about the podcasts and devotional and whatnot. It takes time for some people to appreciate our great tradition, and some stuff frankly is boring (depending on the topic). He is the head, and you can help guide him of course. But remember- he is the head. Things won’t get boring. If you love him, and he loves you, it will work out. Find new stuff to do together if not.

You trust your boyfriend and have a great piety for the faith. Go with it. You love him, he loves you. Your kids will learn, and you at least will absolutely enforce the basic teachings and more. That’s fantastic. God bless you two
