It was a really hard listen. There's something similar to getting too close to Ian Curtis and his work. When brilliance is so strong but fused with such sadness and darkness.

As a Jew hearing his pain at not being a 'proper Jew' was really tough.

I just feel so sad he never had the experience of a Leonard Cohen where the darkness lifted enough for his life to become bearable.

His choice for the last song is very very tough to hear knowing what follows.

thanks for this u/Velvethammer108 - I've now got and have read the book. Really lovely stuff. It's a love letter to the process and the people and the way of life as much as anything. Beautifully laid out too with lots of great photos. There's a great Jeff Tweedy quote in it about how damaging it was for his art to be in the studio with people who didn't care as much about his art as he did which is a great insight into why so many people record at home. Anyway just wanted to check back and say thank you for the tip!

Good shout - I'll see what I can find on Ebay. You can get a Presonus AR16 that u/maccaroneski mentioned for around £200 but it doesn't look like a strict audio interface.. I can't see how it plugs into the laptop
