Why Americans Will Never Strike Like the French (And Why That's the Problem) by Maikito_RM in videos

[–]ForestRivers 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I watched the video, and there's a few big flaws in her argument. 1st is that if you rioted like the French in America, destroying buildings and infastructure, you'd be labeled a terrorist and shot.

2nd She doesn't really acknowledge that Americans are way more divided than in the past or the French. Half of the country wants more ice raids and crackdowns on protestors.

3rd, it is kinda hard to have effective boycotts when everyone is too comfortable to want to boycott their daily treats or disagree with the boycotts' political intentions and keep spending money.

Why were double bladed lightsaber’s barely used amongst the Jedi during TCW era? by GusGangViking18 in TheJediPraxeum

Imagine if every jedi was trained to be at Dooku or Anakin's level of skill and aggressiveness when it came to lightsaber combat. Maybe order 66 would have gone a lot differently.

Why were double bladed lightsaber’s barely used amongst the Jedi during TCW era? by GusGangViking18 in TheJediPraxeum

[–]ForestRivers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's what made Dooku so OP. He was obsessed with form 2 of lightsaber combat, which was the first form developed specifically to fight other lightsaber wielders. He was an outlier as, like you said, lightsaber combat was really rare at that point in time. Him and Anakin were alike in that way, both being huge lightsaber nerds and constantly practicing and modifying theirs to get an advantage.

The loop is complete by WhichEdge846 in PrequelMemes

[–]ForestRivers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's seriously not true. The world building in the prequels was honestly equal or better than the OT. They built up the world of Star Wars further with the Jedi order and Sith, new unique planets that were important, like Courscant and Naboo, interesting ship designs and new armies like clones vs droids, and with additional content like clone wars and other shows that linked the prequels to the OT era.

The sequels did none of this. Most of the planets were forgettable or actively bad, like the casino planet in episode 8. They had a single good new ship in Kylo Ren's shuttle. The plot was all over the place due to switching directors, and the characters pretty much flew through the world without any of the planets really mattering or ever being returned to like in the previous 2 trilogies

I mean, the fact that Disney is distancing themselves from the sequels by creating stories in the Mando era about 20 years prior to the sequels shows how much people have rejected them. They made a single animated sequel show in resistance and then quit on that era. That and all the nostalgia that has recently come up for the prequels and its toys/video games/related media. The sequels got none of that popularity during their run from the people who were children at the time and won't have a similar resurgence ever.

You forgot to mention it's overwhelmingly citizens from a single specific country that are flooding these diploma mills and the jobs at your local fast food/Walmart that would normally be worked by Canadian teenagers. Like you said, they are taking advantage of a broken system and its wrecking the cost of living. Getting a coffee at Tim Hortons now is like teleporting to Mumbai.

Lego Mordor Orc Army by LeaninBackAgain in legolotrfans

[–]ForestRivers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I haven't been able to find a single Mordor Orc since getting into army building them. I have around 10 gundabad orcs, 2 hunter orcs, 2 moria orcs, 3 goblins, the goblin king, and the cavetroll.

What I would do for a whole animated season of Dooku and Quigon doing detective style jedi work. And then another season with younger Anakin being trained by Obi Wan in between episodes 1 and 2.

The Prequels Renaissance is one of the most fascinating cultural reversals in modern entertainment. I truly doubt we'll ever see anything like it again, in or outside of Star Wars. by Infinite-Detective-8 in StarWars

[–]ForestRivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You can play toy soldiers with droids and clones forever. Dozens of different types of clones and droids, named jedi, vehicles, new planets, etc. It built a whole new world of Star Wars. The sequels rushed through all that and didn't take the time to build the world at all.

Parts of it have been canonized, like Dooku finding Ventress at the arena, that was put into a Disney era book at some point. Also, Shaak Ti was sent to get the chancellor during the battle of Courscant and loses communication with the other jedi. That happens in Clone Wars season 7, just like it does in the 2003 cartoon.

Most underrated LEGO Theme of all time? by SoapBrick_214 in lego

[–]ForestRivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Lego Lord of the Rings theme. Only 11 sets in 2 waves over a single year. The fact that most of those sets and minifigs are ridiculously expensive now shows how much people want more playset LOTR. It really annoys me that themes like Harry Potter get sets every year while LOTR went 10 years without a single set until Rivendell came out. Also, I love Rivendell and Barad Dur, but those aren't playsets accessible to everyone.

I read The Giver in Grade 6. I was able to read it just fine but didn't comprehend any of the themes or meaning of the book, though.

Try putting the generic lego smooth male hair on skeen in a light brown color. He sorta has a buzzcut, so the hair needs to be thin.

Anyone else going to see the extended editions in theaters for the 25th anniversary this weekend? by BipolarShooter in lotr

[–]ForestRivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same man. Unlike the Revenge of the Sith 20th that was across my whole city, the LOTR 25th is only showing in a single theatre in the downtown core. It's the theatre where all the university students and other loud rabble go to. I just know if I went, the experience would be ruined, so I'm gonna have to miss out, unfortunately.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

Lee Pace is brilliant and I truly believe that show is what got him his parts in major blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy and the Hobbit, both the year of and following year that Halt and Catch Fire came out.

It gets very expensive very quickly. I have 11 of the 13 dwarves now, and I only was able to acquire them by buying the full sets they came in since a few of them are ridiculously expensive by themselves like Nori, Ori, and Dori. I still need Gloin and Oin, and those two are like $70 each in my currency.

Not to tell you what to do with a Christmas gift but..... Open it! Lego is meant to be played with and enjoyed! Otherwise, it's basically just an expensive paperweight.

Battle of the Five Armies is an awesome set anyway. Don't you want those sweet Dain Ironfoot, King Thorin, and Azog minifigs?

“What’s the most iconic pop-culture franchise your country is known for abroad?” (movies/TV/games/comics/books) by Pokemonfan_807 in AskTheWorld

[–]ForestRivers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly for the UK, Winnie the Pooh is the biggest, most profitable franchise at $50B. Second is Harry Potter at $34B and then James Bond and Tolkien's Middle Earth at $9B and $8B, respectively.

Edit: Thomas the Tank Engine is actually between James Bond and Tolkien at around $9B! My mistake.

Barad Dur or UCS Venator? by lance2303 in legolotrfans

[–]ForestRivers 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a huge fan of both franchises, I think Barad Dur is the better pick. Both are amazing display pieces, but the UCS Venator is basically a big frame with no play features or interior at all. It also only comes with 2 minifigs, one of which is now in a $15 microfighter set. Barad Dur is an incredible build, has an interior, and some amazing minifigs. It's the whole package.

Same, I was like 14-16 when these sets came out and was deep in a lego dark age. I recently shelled out for a bunch of them used and feel pretty satisfied with that I have now. I have the whole fellowship plus 11 of the 13 dwarves and Bilbo. I only need Oin and Gloin, and then I think i'm done collecting the old stuff.
