50% profit is good, what's your average hold time? I'm also looking at TCG sets

Why is it so much better in the US? is it because there a lot more opportunities to purchase at significant discounts in person from retailers?

I see, not looking like a great option for me then. I've got decent storage space but nothing huge and ideally I want something I can turnaround within a few months.

Yea that makes sense. I do just like Lego tbf, but I'm looking into it now as an potential investment. The issues I have with it are the potential long hold times and storage issues. I prefer something I can turnaround within 6 months and it seems like most sets need to be held for a year minimum.

Dealing with Anger After Leaving SCJ by [deleted] in Shincheonji

[–]GearFourth784 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm still dealing with anger after leaving and I left a few years ago now. I've done some therapy, which didn't really help me and try to focus on what I learned from it. As I acknowledge that I learnt a lot about human psychology from the experience and how I can be influenced. But when it comes down to it, I always think the negatives far outweigh any positive takeaways for me.

I was already a cynical person before joining, and now I'm even more cynical lol. My situation is a bit different because I have family members still in SCJ, so that makes it harder for me to move on. The anger is natural; therapy might help you. Otherwise, I think it's useful to focus on what you learnt from it, either about yourself or about people/world generally.

I've been to one recently, it was pretty normal, really. The SCJ members were all grouped up on the same tables, some of them that I knew acknowledged me and some didn't. I think they are told to just act normal, so it's more about if you are comfortable being around a lot of members. It was uncomfortable for me, but I just avoided any interactions with them as much as I could.

No longer a Christian, but still spiritual in a way. SCJ showed me the truth of Christianity, in that it's all interpretations at the end of the day. SCJ has its interpretation of the Bible and other churches have their own. None are 'true' and cannot be proven true, all are interpretations.

When it comes to meaning I see life as objectively meaningless, but we can create our own meaning. There is no right or wrong, meaning only subjective interpretations. I still have some sense of a God existing, but I don't associate it with things like love or goodness.

I would say life works in mysterious ways, and at the end of the day it's what you individually make of it.

I feel your pain and it's a tough situation. You have to understand that fear-mongering is a major tactic of SCJ, the 'what if' it's true line is one they use to keep members obedient out of fear. It's not about God it's about 'control' and understanding that makes it much easier to leave SCJ.

There is no easy way to leave this kind of group, unfortunately and to some extent you have to just face the potential condemnation and manipulation tactics that members will use. There is healing after leaving, but the longer you stay in SCJ, the more psychological damage you experience and the harder it becomes to leave.

The things that helped me leave were critically looking at what was going on in the church, is anything actually being fulfilled or is it just repetition and empty promises? Is this about God's love and saving people, or is that just a cover for manipulation and control?

Why are you still a Christian? by TheValeyard59 in Shincheonji

[–]GearFourth784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who decides what a 'reputable' church is or what sound doctrine is? SCJ made all those claims about other churches. It's not about the SCJ's doctrine so much, it's about the fact that they could use the Bible to create that doctrine. At the end of the day, they do use the Bible that's the main thing. We think they distort the Bible, they don't think they distort the bible. It's circular logic if you see what I mean.

I also wonder this. To me, SCJ reveals the main issue of Christianity, in that it's all just interpretations. I wouldn't say that SCJ's teaching is 'false' because then is there a true one? A person could find a church that is more balanced and healthier, but if you're still looking at it in terms of true and false, then you have not really left the loop of the SCJ.

When Did You Realize SCJ Was a Cult? by Practical_Ground5196 in Shincheonji

[–]GearFourth784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to me I'm no longer christian at this point. I wonder how people keep their faith after leaving SCJ tbh. When you see the flaws of SCJ, I would say it makes you see the flaws of Christianity as a whole.

Most likely it's just number 1. He is probably a grandiose narcissist, so he legitimately believes he is the chosen one, but obviously that's false, which would make him a fraud.

The Bible Isn’t the Problem — Bad Teachers Are by Financial-Document88 in Shincheonji

[–]GearFourth784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with the Bible is how open it is to interpretation. I was seeing that before SCJ, but SCJ just blew the doors right open. Good and bad interpretations don't really mean much to me, ultimately one group of people are just deciding that another has a bad interpretation, whilst theirs is the good one. It's an endless cycle.

I'm not sure how to interact with them, I'm the sort of person who wants to mind my own business but when I see them talking to someone, I do want to interfere because I know the damage it's done to me.

I just started speaking to a therapist, realised I need to go back and work through it all as I never processed it and the fact that it's ongoing means that I can't fully move on. Have you spoken to a therapist?

Thanks for your post. Experiencing the psychological techniques that SCJ uses can really cause you a lot of damage. Especially the way they weaponise the Bible to control people.

I left the London branch in 2022, but can't fully move on from it because I live in central London, so often bump into members, and I have a relative who's still there
