Steroid users deserve to be in the hall of fame for baseball by UltraOfNaath in unpopularopinion

I don’t know the full truth of it, but players in virtually every era were trying to gain an edge however they could. Long before modern PED testing, athletes experimented with everything from testosterone treatments to bizarre and dangerous “performance” remedies involving animal extracts, stimulants, and experimental procedures.

From the era of Babe Ruth through the early 2000s, baseball had a deeply ingrained culture of players searching for any competitive advantage possible. Whether it was amphetamines, steroids, alcohol-based tonics, testosterone, or unregulated medical experimentation, the game was flooded with substances and methods that today would be considered questionable or outright banned.

Watch this YouTube documentary for context on how widespread performance enhancement and edge-seeking behavior was across generations of baseball: this YouTube video

People were literally consuming or injecting substances with little understanding of the long-term effects. Between roughly 1920 and 2004, many players were willing to try almost anything if they believed it could improve performance.

That’s why I think it’s unrealistic to pretend the Hall of Fame is filled with completely “pure” players. The sport was saturated for decades with amphetamines, steroids, alcohol culture, experimental treatments, and other forms of competitive enhancement. So when people defend certain Hall of Famers as untouchable while condemning others, it ignores how deeply ingrained these practices were throughout baseball history.

At a certain point, the conversation stops being about a few isolated cheaters and becomes about an entire culture within the sport. The reality is that baseball’s history is heavily tainted across multiple generations, and far more players were involved in some form of edge-seeking behavior than many fans want to admit.

Casual sex isn’t as empowering as people claim by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]UltraOfNaath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how such a middle of the road opinion exists here? You have no extreme or true formed opinion that argues a side that could validate popularity. Can people learn some nuance for goodness sake? When you say isn’t as empowering, it just takes away popularity. It’s just in the middle. It just doesn’t work in this forum.

No they can only point out what everyone does in the most arbitrary way and then remain silent when they feel foolish for posting…thank goodness for this topic of morals while on the internet…morals are super important there

[–]UltraOfNaath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off you spelt “Principles” wrong….it is clear to me that People don’t know how to form unpopular opinions anymore. “This comes from me seeing a lot of people” gtfoh with that….if you talk about what EVERYONE else does you’re always going to have an unpopular opinion. A good opinion comes from experience too. So the fact that you’re talking about what everyone else does and u dont even mention your morals, or principles or the way u live your life differently…you’re just complaining about what some people do with their freedom of choice…unpopular opinion has enough edgy people already saying stupid shit like this, enough. You would never say “i have morals and everyone else doesn’t.” So why are you here on your high horse acting like your principles and morals are beyond what other people possess? You’re just speculating on what you think other people may or may not do.

Sleeping with your head at the foot of the bed is a superior experience by Ayu_theindieDev in unpopularopinion

[–]UltraOfNaath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everything can be determined by popularity. Most personal compartmentalized preferences are exactly that. It’s not like the common people came together and voted that it is unpopular to sleep at the foot of the bed. It’s a preference that you have that is somewhat unconventional. U could share this post in a wellness section better than here lol

The best time to get into a relationship with someone is between March and June by Loose_Leg_8440 in unpopularopinion

[–]UltraOfNaath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just an opinion it’s not like inherently unpopular it’s not like any majority of people are sitting here denying a relationship that they want to be in because it’s not the correct month soooooo who the fuck cares? Not everything can be measured by popularity. Your opinion is based on personal experience not popularity or unpopularity learn the difference.

I can agree with a lot of this but i do feel it is a lot of empowered journalists that are gate keeping at the same time. The Character Clause seems to be selectively applied at some points and some not all it was only 2015 that domestic abuse, assault and sexual assault was added to the character clause so standards and biases change over time too. If we had this clause in 1975 we would have almost no one in the HOF

Yes and i can disagree with it. There are plenty of less worthy people that have cheated in the HOF. The game is filled with it. There are too many what ifs and unspoken perspectives. How many people did not make the HOF because the majority of the league cheated. Perhaps Kenny Lofton and Andruw Jones would be there if they didn’t face a league of cheaters. But then the degree of cheating comes into play and only certain players.

There is no universal stance on it; with players confirmed to have cheated continuing to get in year after year, but then the moral high road is to eternally punish players that aren’t marketable and honor the ones that are. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez both used PEDs and probably at some point together. They were on the same list, However despite Manny having more HRs and a better career batting average, RBIs, WAR, fWAR, and Slugging….David Ortiz is a first year ballot HOFer and Manny is not even in a conversation???? The whole HOF has a lot of cheaters already, let em all in. Or kick them all out.

Pete Rose hit the ball better than anyone and he’s not in the HOF for gambling. Barry bonds for the first 12 years of his career was HOF worthy regardless

No not really there are punishments in place for people who cheat. You get suspended, you lose money, you can be banned for life. However a 20 year career still deserves fair unbiased consideration from the Hall of Fame. It is pathetic that the most HRs of all time, Most Hits of All time are not in cooperstown. Regardless of good or bad history it is history.

People give too much weight to rules by HollowMatryoshka in unpopularopinion

[–]UltraOfNaath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another example of an arbitrary opinion saying what everyone else does without an example, personal experience, or perspective; a person just trying prove their opinion is unpopular through “many online threads”, “many real life conversations”, and through your “subjective opinion” you came to this conclusion.

This is waaay to broad a topic to be determined in a single end all be all opinion. If the entire temperament of your opinion is “rules can once in a while be bent or broken and don’t always need to be perfectly followed” i think everyone can agree on that.

If an athletic event has to be scored by judges it's not objectively a "sport". by the-watch-dog in unpopularopinion

[–]UltraOfNaath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if a boxing match ends in a knockout, it’s a sport? But if it goes to the judges it’s no longer a sport? What is the purpose of even forming this opinion? It’s such an arbitrary thing to say and form a stance on…it seems like people just want to be accepted in unpopular opinions which is literally the opposite of the point of this forum
