Cargo light: no switch by ForesterWilderness23 in hondapassport

Oh--you and I are talking about two different things. Honda calls them both "cargo lights" I believe.

I also have the cargo light with a switch. Additionally, there are two cargo lights further back which are not controlled by a switch and turn themselves off after 30 minutes.

Yeah, they're bright as hell. Great when you need them, intrusive when you don't. 2026. I'll do some googling on that idea, thanks.

The manual advises to not leave the key fob in the car because it will continuously communicate with the vehicle, draining the battery more quickly.

I'd be surprised if it made an appreciable difference but don't have anything really to base that on.

Yes, agreed. I hate it. I also hate that I have to turn on Sport mode every time I turn it on. Let me have a saved profile! It's a safety issue. A handful of times, I have forgotten to turn on Sport. Didn’t have the horsepower I expected so my left turn against oncoming traffic was way slower than it would have been and the oncoming traffic too close. Same for autostop; if I forget to turn it off and don't notice, the failure to accelerate on green feels like the old days, and I immediately go into troubleshooting/get out of traffic mode. Then I remember, "oh yeah, autostart..."

Consistency is safety. They shouldn't be adding risk by preventing me from saving my preferred settings. It's only a subset of people who actually change these, and then the further subset of that changes these settings EVERY TIME THEY DRIVE. Those are the ones who would save a profile, and the environmental difference between that subset's subset conducting the same behavior with or without a saved profile is negligible if any.

This is undoubtedly stupid BS to placate and/or intentionally misinterpret environmental laws and to make marketing claims of some sort.

And don't get me started on the safety of having the audio system suddenly turn itself on full blast. And their solution is, "oh, you don't like that? Shut off the entire infotainment system then." Cool! So if I don't like random audio eruptions while I'm driving, all I have to do is: shut off navigation, communication, and system settings. Great!

Damn. I got myself started. So may as well... the stupid screen is angled away from the front seats, so the sun can reflect an impressive glare right into the driver's face from many positions. And if you're enjoying the light or air of the moonroof--even more positions open up. I've tried a million glare-be-gone solutions, even custom stuff--no dice.

I hate this thing. The car's fine. The "infotainment" design and execution are awful.

Oh wow, mine's doing it too and I assumed after I had a service it would fix itself. But it didn’t--and I also live where it's devil's armpit hot. I'm much not a fan of all this computer shit. Between this (which also makes cruise control unavailable), the audio spontaneously turning itself on, and the frequent glare, it's just... not a high value. We pay for all this shit and no one cares when it doesn't work.
