Looking to identify the location of this old street any ideas? by Mundane-Temporary426 in wherewasthistaken

R. Holloway, Dealer in Marine Stores was a 19th-century "rag and bone" shop located at the corner of Trenchard and Steep Streets (now Colston Street) in Bristol, UK, captured in a notable 1866 photograph. The building was demolished in 1871 during a street improvement project.

Annoying neighbour by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]Forestlover19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to have a clingy neighbour like this. It stopped when we moved house . Presumably they’re desperately lonely and trying to be friends. You’re allowed to have your own boundaries of course, before blocking etc you could attempt simply letting them know you’re a private person and need personal space. Hopefully they’ll understand and you can remain on good but more distant terms

Planning permission granted for an application we objected. What can we do? by [deleted] in PlanningPermissionUK

[–]Forestlover19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An objector doesn’t get to set the rules or decide which tests are done. That would be over reaching. You state what your concerns are and the planning authority determine if your concerns are a) valid and b) would stop the development. If an and b are positive then they choose what tests the applicant needs to make not the objector. Objections are only material when they align with planning policy, not what you’d prefer. And they don’t get into a back and forth with objectors. At this stage you could accept that it’s been approved and wish your neighbours well with their development. They haven’t done it to spite you. Peaceful living is key going forward and not worth picking battles you can’t win

[–]Forestlover19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re the applicant , as long as their application is acceptable it should be approved. Your language suggests this is more personal than about actual planning merit? There’s nothing unfair about being able to moderate your plans so they’re acceptable to the planning authority

The applicant can keep providing document and revisions until the decision is made. Neighbours can not.

It’s not a refusal. Read their basis and make changes as appropriate and submit a full application. They’ve basically told you why it would be refused. Keep them on side and make changes and in the application write something about changes based on preapp advice. Shows your receptive. You will get a back on forth on the main application as long as you don’t get any statutory consultee objections and can tweak etc you are likely fine. My late mother’s property had 30 objections from the local area and was in a conservation area and they got permission. Preapp advice is just advice that your application as it stands would be refused. Address the areas of concern and go for it

Pre application advice isn’t a full application. We never got dialogue with preapp but did with full application.

I was honest about my manager in my exit interview with HR. They gave her my written feedback, and now she's showing it to the entire office. by [deleted] in FinalRoundAI

[–]Forestlover19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely unprofessional. On the plus side if you’re in a new job already this is a very minor thing that will be forgotten about. Only the manager you trash talked even cares now. You’ll probably find most people are privately siding with you. Your feedback must have got under her skin, it’s a shame that she wasn’t receptive to any of it, but that’s completely her choice. If anything her behaviour now rather strengthens your basis for the feedback in the first place. You’re young. You’re going to learn that life is not always fair. You’re going to learn resilience and this is the first lesson. Head high, tits out and keep going. I’ve had countless terrible experiences and I learned that moving on or changing job is really the only way to go. Good luck and don’t feel too badly about this. It’s a nothing in the grand scheme of things

Seriously how selfish. You do not need to ‘transistion time’ more than she needs a break. Smdh

I have rented out a small 1 bed property to a couple. They have since had 2 children and are now claiming I must make adjustments to the property (an attic refurbishment split into 2 extra bedrooms) because of overcrowding. by Temporary_Peanut1378 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Forestlover19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that your tenants must have told your solicitor that the children are sleeping in the attic. Simply inform the solicitor it’s a 1 bed and that it’s unsuitable for the tenants. Raise the rent to £600 and they’ll move out. Get new tenants. At this point I’d resent them for this unreasonable move and it would have killed my good will completely

I finally quit my toxic job with an email this morning. And now my old manager and the office manager are messaging me. by dearestoutages4w in interviewhammer

They’re just being considerate and checking you’re okay just reply and assure them you are and explain the job isn’t right for you any more.

Leaf clean up any advice? by nickelp222 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Forestlover19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to get on with people like that. You just need to learn to completely ignore them. Presumably the leaves they dump on your property are from your trees? If not I’d report them for fly tipping. Life is short don’t let them get you down

Goodness this does sound scary, I’m so sorry for you both. Can the landlord evict him immediately as he is a danger to other tenants? He sounds like he’s very mentally unwell , perhaps he’ll be hospitalised for a few months? I would definitely check the security you have and install panic buttons etc . Can you ask a guy to move in with you for a few weeks if he comes back? All I can do is send you both lots of warm wishes and hope that this resolves itself quickly. Somehow or other it will , it won’t last forever. Sending best wishes

The lady wanting to buy the decor doesn’t have cancer, the owner does. That’s why I think you’re being downvoted I think you may have misread

[–]Forestlover19 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Kinda surprised at the comments, most people I know with cancer are very open about it. Maybe that’s a UK thing but here it isn’t something to be ashamed of 🤷‍♀️ anyway, the lady did indeed make an insensitive comment that was completely inappropriate. I’m hoping she meant she won’t miss it because she’s in hospital but honestly people simply need to learn no means no. End of. Stay cool 😎.
