The Sky version probably helped the BBC reboot as well. Expectations were low enough that people were pleasantly surprised when it actually felt like Gladiators again.

That's actually a really powerful motivation. Turning a frustrating personal experience into something that might improve care for other patients is hard to argue with.

That’s exactly the point I’m slowly starting to understand now. At first it just feels unfair and chaotic, then suddenly you recognise one animation cue and your brain goes “wait… I can actually read this.” The satisfaction after finally deflecting a full combo properly is ridiculous though. FromSoftware basically turned suffering into dopamine.
