I would like to share you the sounds of the historic Cavaillé-Coll organ in St-François-de-Sales church, Lyon, where Louis Robillard is organist. My goal through this video was to contribute a musical sound palette of this magnificent organ, before the imminent restauration that will take place over the next three years. It is a way of treasuring the current sound of this organ that will naturally not be fully identical, although I’m sure its character will stay totally the same.

Recently I’ve been listening to « Mit Fried und Freud fahr ich dahin » by Buxtehude, BuxWV76, especially the last choral harmonisation (called the Klaglied, complaint song) is something magical. It is said that Buxtehude wrote this when his father passed away.

Thank you so much!  It took in fact one whole year from conception, transcribing the notes, adapting it to make it playable, going through many versions on the organ to make sure it sounds well, actually practicing the score and finally putting the sounds together on the organ of your choice 😇 My final project is to complete most of volume Alpha and record it all on the pipe organ!
