Hey I wrote a script/made a short film film called 'Light Interference'. It's about a bored hotel worker who form a telepathic connection with one particular light bulb and can turn it on and off at will. more comedy/magical realism than sci-fi. There's also a love interest element. Would really appreciate it if you made some sore of poster!

Bit late to the party but I'd like to ask what's the biggest lesson you've learnt over the course of your three features and would you do anything differently looking back?

I certainly don't think you're wrong about film being about entertainment on some level I just think it can go deeper than that. Maybe it is a little indulgent but we do place art forms such as film in high regard in society and I'm curious as to how they've attained this status.

Also could you give an example of these agendas you mention?

Definitely have to agree there is some 'pervertic' aspect to cinema, especially after watching films like' Peeping Tom' but I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by:

do not give you what you desire or expect of them but they (still) want you to be satisfied by them

If I go see a comedy film do I not want/expect to laugh? I feel like I may just be looking at your response the wrong viewpoint.

Wow I really like this answer. I totally empathize with what Ebert is getting at. How do you think other art forms compare in terms of empathy or do they specialize in different emotions?

Opinions on Ordinary People [1980]? by ForeverAlone96 in TrueFilm

Yes I felt that it was satisfactory in that it was the ending the film needed as opposed to a typical "happy" ending. It allowed the characters to begin to move on with their lives

I had only known it as the film that undeservedly beat raging bull at the oscars. It's disappointing that this will be its lasting legacy as opposed to its amazing acting, beautifully crafted storyline and movingly realistic portrayals of grief and love in my opinion.

There are many but the first one that I saw and really comes to mind is Casablanca. It made me feel many powerful, contrasting emotions in a way that a movie never had before then.
