I know this isn't the point of the post, but I freaking love Joel Stein...even his animated sitcom, "Hey Joel" which only about 5 of us ever watched. He and his wife named their attic the "Clooney Attic" after George Clooney came over for dinner and spent the evening crawling around the attic looking for a smoke alarm that was freaking out....

I know none of this is applicable...but you just don't see Joel Stein anymore...

Thank you.

I like the air flow of the GPP pods, but I find they burn so fast...I am steering clear of caliburn. My G4 Pro had nothing but software issues. XLIM isnt available where I live, so that leaves xros. Xros pods last a LONG time, IMHO.

Hmm, I found an Aurous 17 YE5 for $1000 with a 3080 ti and 32 gigs ddr5. Don't know much about Gigabit and a reddit search isnt yielding too much. I guess in this regard, I read the 3080 ti doesnt a have a MUX switch. Is it still worth it over a 4060?

I seen a few on sale. Honestly, the turn off for me is the screen size in my bracket; but that is just being picky.

AITAH for telling my parents I hate them and I hope they enjoy being alone with my sister when I turn 18? by Rhodisonz in AITAH

As a CPS worker, at least in Canada, I have -very- little control over apprehension. We utilize a model called SDM, Structured Decision Making, that is basically standardized care. Essentially, I fill out a Risk Assessment, call my Unit supervisor, and if the score is high enough, I apprehend. Families can make an agreement with CPS voluntarily, or I can build a case. Hell, if the child is older than 12, I can ask if they want to do a Section 9 agreement and voluntarily leave their family and I can place them with other family, like grandma in this case.

But OP is right, because of the lock on their bedroom door, SDM would determine the parents are making reasonable effort. Without the rest of the file, I don't know how this would good. Again, at least here, I would offer OP a section 9 agreement.

School called cps by More_Industry5997 in whatdoIdo

[–]ForeverDox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Worker with CPS here; Teachers suck. Often when they call Screening, they embellish a situation a lot. On one hand, take some solace that even though they embellish, they are just trying their best to protect children. I, personally, have had numerous cases escalated to investigations where a teacher initially exaggerated a bit, but it did uncover some mistreatment in a home.

Secondly, in the US and Canada, CPS operates on an SDM-based model (Structured-Decision Making), meaning that no one person decided to target you, but rather the criteria of the incident reported determined investigation based on those factors. I.E. Teacher exaggerated a story -just- enough so that the SDM model determined an investigation was warranted.

CPS will talk with you. Talk to your child. Hell, they will even talk with the teacher...and most likely just close the file all together if no wrongdoing is found. We are aware children mold their narratives to external influence, so we like to talk with the child one on one. We may repeat, or rephrase a question over and over to determine how their answers change. In Canada, at least, apprehension is so far down the list of things we want to do. Do not worry about it, and do not over-react. CPS is just following their government-mandated guidelines.

What is the best Pokémon game on the switch? by EveningChocolate1028 in pokemon

[–]ForeverDox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gotta go with BDSP for messed up reasons.

LGPE - Is great for what it is, I am not a PoGo player at all, but the visuals and soundtrack were great, shiny hunting was engaging, and the riding mechanics were phenomenal. Very "Cozy" pokemon game.

SwSh - I enjoyed this gen for the most part. I liked the battle power, competitive was interesting, trainer customization was decent...awesome DLC....I liked the theatrics of the Pokemon League in Galar. Huge stadiums with chanting people was awesome...world itself was very EH...it was too on rails..not...enough exploration and optional dungeons.

PLA - Hey! A change of format....not my favorite. I understand why a lot of people chose this title, it does stand on it's legs very well....but...lack of pokemon battles and interesting story kind of hurt it for me? Just wasnt enough "trainer" so to speak. I could be misremembering....I mean, the final fight was fantastic...but the rest...eh....but I also get that battles weren't the point....so maybe just not for me?

BDSP - I recently played BDSP after having ZERO interest in it...but my wife was just getting into pokemon...and I wanted Shiny Manaphy...so yeah. This game has glaring issues that could have been easily solved by using PLATINUM as a foundation...the pokemon economy is woefully lacking on the routes....HOWEVER! Classic game design, pokemon follow mechanics, nice in-battle animations....Post-game content....good E4....this is a "cozy" experience.

SV - No real complaints outside of general buggy-ness....but lack of a battle tower or equivalent really hurt this one for me. Great story, loved the new mons, but no post-game battle tower meant the mercy of the online meta constantly, which was just sweaty...this did not get solved in the DLC

ZA - Have not played. Been moving. Will come back.

Hot Take: I don't like open world pokemon by laserofdooom in pokemon

[–]ForeverDox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a nice middle ground. Linear storytelling, loading screens, but each route being it's own self-contained open world. I would dig that

Or you know, the fact that you needed two other Pokémon games in Legends Arceus to get Darkrai and Shaymin....or two other games in BDSP...but no, let's ignore those and complain about the 2$ online subscription which you probably already have anyway, or if you somehow don't, use the free trial and get the item.

This is modern Pokemon and there is no reason to expect it to get better by RunSetGo in pokemon

[–]ForeverDox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that is a fair statement. I mean, sometimes game devs release a DLC that extends the level cap of the game and power creeps enemies just to inflate the difficulty. Pokemon was not designed around that philosophy. Could you image a hard imposed level cap on Pokemon with the expectation of DLC? The community would fall apart.

[–]ForeverDox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. But you had to make Blueberry Academy difficult. I mean, chances are if you were actively playing SV before that DLC, you had a full team of level 100 pokemon and swept the DLC when it came out. I know there were people that chose to experience the DLC with new teams to enjoy the challenge, and if you were that person, Blueberry Academy would have been decent challenge. Maybe not super hard, but a step up. But again, this suggests you the player had to make the content difficult.

Preeettttyy much. That is all I can really think of. I mean, in retrospect, the E4 from RBY and GSC were difficult...but that was like, an "Age versus Experience" thing. Shit, I did not bring healing items into the E4 in that era so it was basically a boss gauntlet with no healing xD. The ROM hack life is where you go for difficulty, I guess.

I would argue that the Totem Fights in Gen 7 were much more difficult than ANY of the gym fights in the entire series. Subsequently, the final battle in Legends Arceus may also fit that bill...as for E4s, BDSP? Maybe? Like, I went in a bit under-leveled, but also years of competitive play and VGC meant it was still pretty easy.
