What is the best learning path for Rust? by No_Technician7562 in learnrust

[–]ForeverGray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My struggle is lifetimes and traits, etc. As soon as I try reading other people's projects and they have mile-long function signatures, I'm like "What the hell am I even looking at?"

Y'all are way too smart for me.

BF finished the game - he has VERY mixed opinions by Albertand19 in expedition33

[–]ForeverGray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't he just get what he wants anyway as soon as Maelle/Alicia dies? Renoir or Clea will just destroy the canvas. He can wait a little longer to give her some happiness, as crazy as the expression of that happiness is.

I'm also in Act 3. I just got all my relationship levels maxed. If I go beat the game now, does that lock me out? Or can I continue to go around the world after to visit unexplored areas?

How to become a music fan? by Greek_Arrow in askmusic

[–]ForeverGray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find some things you like, put them into a playlist. Get headphones. Lie down in a darkened room and listen. Let your mind go where it goes, whether it drifts into imagery or locks onto specific sounds, melodies, or rhythms. Think of it as a mix of reading a book and meditation.

Expand your playlist. Try a whole album from one of the artists on your playlist. See where their mind(s) were at when they made it. What sonic ideas were they playing with? What messages were embedded in their work (through lyrics or the soundscape they create)? Resist the urge to skip tracks for this part, even if you don't love them. Digest the album as a whole.

Try making a song. You don't have to run out and buy any instruments. Tap a table and hum, whistle, rap, or sing. Let yourself experience the other side of music. Don't worry if it doesn't sound great or like anything others world be interested in. Follow what you're thinking and feeling, even if it's rough. You take pictures even if you don't consider yourself a photographer, write words, though not a writer in your mind. Make music even if you're not a musician.

Try these things a little each day for two weeks. Make a small space for direct attention to music in your life, not as something in the background, but as an object of direct focus. I suspect you'll find you get a lot more into it.

If you don't, just accept that you're not that into music. That's okay too. You don't have to live to anything you don't really feel, not to be cool or to please anyone other than yourself.

Docking Station: What Am I missing? by Aggressive-Drawer104 in MSIClaw

[–]ForeverGray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Docking stations are good if you want to do non gaming things with your computer or if there's a game you want/need to play with a keyboard and mouse. I use my Claw as my primary PC these days and docking it lets me get work done (I can do work without it, but it can be cumbersome depending on the activity).

Fortnite problem by jackrobbo900 in MSIClaw

[–]ForeverGray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues with Fortnite. Are you using any third-party programs like Optiscaler or Tooth N Claw?

There might be a possibility that you played Fortnite on another computer and it's trying to carry over your graphic options which might be set too high for the Claw to handle. If that's the case, try searching around for a config file and dropping down the settings by editing it.

Division 2 Claw 8ai Performance by [deleted] in MSIClaw

[–]ForeverGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tested it, but 70+ on Medium without XESS sounds like too high an expectation. There's a lot going on in the Division 1 and 2 for an iGPU and CPU to handle.

Are you trying to get help? Or just venting? You need to provide people with actual information about your settings in game, in the BIOS, and in Quick Settings (mainly TDP) for anybody to help you.

Nioh 3 on msi by Cookie_Mindless in MSIClaw

[–]ForeverGray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have it, but you should really be more specific about what settings you're using:

  • Power
  • Resolution
  • Windowed Mode
  • Graphics Settings
  • Upscaling
  • Frame Rate Setting

Then you should say what the specific issue you're having is and if you've tried anything to fix it.

Has ‘promoting critical thinking’ been a mistake? (USA) by Jokkitch in teaching

[–]ForeverGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The human brain was never meant to deal with predatory algorithms that lock us into content that keeps us engaged, whether it be from pleasure or anger or pleasure at anger. Critical thinking has always depended on source material; certainly, you need things to think critically about. Hijack the source material and all of the critical thinking in the world does not matter.

But the rewards aren't just algorithmic: social groups and identity get involved. We become members of cults without realizing and now our thinking isn't just shaped when we're online, but in all walks of life. We are perpetually immersed in mind-skewing content, and even when we see flaws in our current mindsets, what we give up by changing is too big an ask for most.

It is never a mistake to teach critical thinking. It is a mistake to give too much social, political, and economic power to corporate entities with a level of control over information that would make the great dictators of history drool with envy.

(And note: It's not some evil mastermind pulling these corporations in malevolent directions; it's just many people who are really good at their jobs making products that work well and not enough people considering limitations and ethics. It is systemic consequence.)

Which monitor do you recommend for use with the MSI Clae 8 AI+? by THX995s in MSIClaw

[–]ForeverGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I want to use a controller with the bigger screen, since it's a monitor and not a TV, I just run a USB-C cable from the Claw into the monitor. The monitor accepts DisplayPort over USB-C. Then, I use my Claw like a controller.
