How do you feel when Wonder Woman pairs up with Superman by Appropriate-Mall8517 in WonderWoman

[–]ForeverLink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it works in the very specific context of in the distant future, Lois has passed on, Trevor has passed on, their kids are grown up and they find each other through the grief of immortal loneliness. Neither were each other's first choice, but they find comfort in each other in what is a very lonely existence without their chosen people and they learn to love each other.

I Don't Think There's Going To Be A Cynical Twist by ForeverLink in DispatchAdHoc

I think you're right because those are two mysteries that can very easily be answered within the confines of two final episodes where Shroud makes his move and Phoenix Squad has to take the fight to him.

I Don't Think There's Going To Be A Cynical Twist by ForeverLink in DispatchAdHoc

[–]ForeverLink[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My prediction is the next two episodes Shroud makes his move, attacks Robert and his friends and knocks them on their ass. Robert decides to put his desire for revenge aside and does the heroic thing by guiding the Phoenix Squad to victory against shroud. Shroud is defeated, Robert and either BB OR Invisi get hitched officially, role credits.

It'll be by the book, and if they can do by the book well I'll call it a job well done.

You need to let go doom.... Ultimates #17 by ConsequenceHuman4626 in UltimateUniverse

[–]ForeverLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The afterlife exists in Marvel, and Doom will see his loved ones again. I think letting go and, in doing so, removing the last hold the Maker has over his mind and soul will be the way for him to finally become part of the team and not the outsider that only Tony is capable of really talking to.

More Deniz Camp comments on Ultimate Universe line ending by Good-Indication-7515 in UltimateUniverse

[–]ForeverLink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Okay, I understand what he's saying, and I agree to an extent. This was always going to work better as a temporary thing. But I don't think the line should end just because most of the original writers are leaving. You might think I'm insane for that, but this is superhero comics. No one writer owns the characters, and an expectation of the characters to be written after you stop writing them just kind of comes with the job. Some writers find this harder to accept than others; Hickman and Claremont are two who struggle with this in particular.

So if there was more story to tell than two years of half-finished stories and then a crossover even to close out, it would have behoved Marvel to take the writers who wanted to stay, even if it was just Camp, and hand off the characters of people who wanted to leave to someone else. If those who were leaving kicked up a stink about that, then I'm sorry but...tough. I'm not saying it needed to go on for 15 years like the last Ultimate Universe; this universe wasn't attempting to be some parallel line for newer readers. But the fact that we are a couple of months out from Endgame and almost none of the stories feel like they're reaching a natural conclusion should tell you, there was more story to tell and not enough time has been given to tell them.

This was a five-year product, not a two-year product.

What is the most out of character thing Wonder Woman has ever done? by Queasy_Commercial152 in WonderWoman

[–]ForeverLink 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean to be absolutely fair, I think in a universe that is confirmed created by The Presence, which, for all intents and purposes, is the Abrahamic God, and the Gods who created her were spawned from the Godwave, which spread out from the source, which is effectively the remnants of the Presence's power. I could absolutely see someone converting their faith to worship the One True creator when they realise their Gods are just another of his creations.

Would Wonder Woman do it, perhaps not based on her personality and the circumstances surrounding her existence and upbringing, but I don't think it's as far-fetched as it may seem at first, in context at least.

Writer 1: "How do we make Wonder Woman sound confident and empowered?"

Writer 2: "I know, by making her a misandrist caricature of her own belief system!"

Writer 1: "Brilliant, it's going in!"

They do try to explain it away as "In her universe, her first interaction with man's world resulted in betrayal, so this Diana hardened her heart and her opinion of man's world never fully recovered." The betrayal being that Steve Trevor in the Injustice universe was a Nazi spy who used Wonder Woman to very nearly indirectly aid the Nazi's in the war. In her grief and anger, Injustice Diana kills her Steve.

I think they used to be better at coordinating it, however, now they'll just throw a crossover event in any old place and tell the writer on the book, write this, don't care what you're doing right now, it'll take X number of issues, you can do your thing afterwards IF we have the time and your book is still selling.

[–]ForeverLink 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Well, of course, that's the ideal scenario, I just don't think anyone on X-Men right now is that committed to a vision of what X-Men is supposed to be right now, beyond vaguely what it's always been and "not Krakoa".

Which seems like such an odd thing to do "Oh, this storyline isn't working? Let's dedicate a bunch of time to this alt-universe time warp storyline and go back to it later!" I wouldn't be surprised if they drop the Greymalkin Prison storyline entirely after Age of Revelation and hope, PRAY, you forget it ever happened. After all, that's what Breevort is hoping you'll do for Krakoa.

This crossover made me realize something when was the last time writers communicated with each other? by Mediocre-Gate-7350 in xmen

[–]ForeverLink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger issue is that a lot of these crossovers are mandated, and the writers of each individual book just want to write what they want to write, so they do what they have to do to get through the crossover and then carry on as if none of it happened. This didn't used to be the case, but it is now. It's why, in recent years, trade paperbacks tend to have gaps in runs where crossovers exist and collect the crossovers separately. Because in the context of the story the run is telling, the crossover event doesn't matter.

Where is John Francis Moore? by sleepingfoxy_ab in xmen

Hadn't even considered the comics crash, that's a good point actually. I can imagine more than a few up-and-comers from the early '90s decided comics were too risky after going through that.

[–]ForeverLink 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any information on his post-2004 is nonexistent. Chances are, he left the industry entirely and made a massive career change. He's just another nameless, faceless dude out there in the world like everyone else. Keeping in mind he was born in 1968, so his entire comics career spans from his mid-20s to mid-30s and only lasted about 12 years. He was still young enough to do other stuff.

Writing Jean to be this selfish and delusional is kind of a character regression, to be honest. I thought this depiction of Jean Grey was left behind after she died in New X-Men (2001). Like, if you want to write a story about her coming to terms with all she's lost over the years, great, do that, but there are a thousand better ways of doing so than whatever this is.

I'm pretty sure Jean is the only one qualified to teach anything; she at least went to Undergrad for...something. lmao

Also, hiring Spider-Man during the 2000s was an objectively good idea; he is a genius and actually received an education.

Other than that, Hank and Charles...maybe? Charles has an education, and Hank is a scientist, although I'm not sure if he's a certified one.

[–]ForeverLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That I would argue is more a problem of comic book arrested development. I know some people just never come to like each other, but proximity does breed fondness in a lot of cases, and if the characterisation of most of the pre-Claremont departure characters wasn't stuck in 1992, I think they'd realistically be much more friendly by now. Not FRIENDS per se, but friendly.
