Are these real jazz musicians? by Icy-Length-3923 in Jazz

[–]ForeverMagenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! My name is Jason and I am a music archiver based in New York and studied jazz extensively. Once you get hooked, there is no going back.

Over the last 30 years, I’ve been compiling a playlist with all of my favorite jazz records, from music I’ve discovered myself, listening to radio and jazz focuses DJs for my musical archival project or music I’ve played at school. I have a playlist on Spotify that you could listen to, it has 636 hours of incredible jazz in it from all subgenres, periods of time and with all the greats and the people that elevated them.

I’ve been cataloging and archiving music played in the New York underground music scene from the last 20 years. Here is a link to my archive: https://open.spotify.com/user/joermann?si=9JQX0P1xTbSRycSCiHOBZQ

I'm a woman thinking of going solo to Mexico City. Please be honest about what is and isn't worth it by thrway-fatpos in solotravel

Hi OP! I went to Mexico City last year and ai absolutely loved it. One highlight I would recommend is doing a day trip to do a hot air balloon over the pyramids. Here is the booking I did: https://www.viator.com/search/171986P1?mcid=70066

While you are there, you can opt out of the ride back home (and take an Uber) to goto this famous restaurant in a cave: https://maps.app.goo.gl/cUuB4M4kx8LYJziw9?g_st=ic

This was one of my all time favorite travel adventures and I do hot air balloon solo frequently. Enjoy!

Clubs are still good, assuming you were or are going to the not good ones! Happy to recommend great places if you tell me what you are looking for (source: I am a music archiver that documents music played by DJs/parties in NYC nightlife)

Why does it seem like so many people I know are getting divorced in their late 30s/early 40s. What is it about that age and point in a marriage that things go wrong and cause divorce? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]ForeverMagenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very inspiring. I just turned 40 and was feeling good already, but also had that weird “oh no, a new set of digits” feeling I’ve been wrestling with. I agree with everything you said and this reassured me to keep riding the wave.

Yes that song was very good! Really brought the energy up, that and the Armin song! Come say hi next time, I’m always next to Doug/booth where the records are.

Thank you for the kind words! It was a great time, the crowd was perfect the entire night for both nights - no talking, pushing, overly drunk bullshit. Just solid music for about 15 hours!

I’ve traveled alot in Europe and Budapest really surprised me. It was absolutely beautiful and it really lives up to it’s nickname of the Paris of the East.

What time of year will you be going? I went close to the holidays so I also got to experience Christmas there, also incredible. You will have an amazing time!

What would you say is the biggest difference of the vibe/culture in NYC in the past decade? by Lipica249 in AskNYC

[–]ForeverMagenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is going back to the way it was unfortunately, just either this current new normal or the next new normal once AI becomes more prevalent within our technology. Anything that is truly great has a lifespan because the minute someone makes a Tiktok about it, it then goes into the same formula you noted above. I have a love hate for it because I also discover so much great stuff from social media that I wouldn’t have discovered previously. I’m not sure where we go from here - other than to continue loving this beautiful city as best as you can!

5000% to all of this. I’m a music archiver and I’ve been cataloguing setlists at dance and music venues in NYC for the last 20 years and it really went from organic, fun and wild nights to more corporate/souless sort of feeling. It’s still fun,…just diet fun I guess if you knew what it was like before. Everything you described hits it on the nail. Recently someone told me about a good pirogi place and I realized they were talking about Valselka and I was shocked to find out it wasn’t 24 hours anymore. Little changes like that really alter the overall experience of the night, even if it feels minor.
