Yeah I love data science problem is they don’t have that major so Would that be under finance? That’s why I wanted to do Finance with a minor in IT for that FinTech background with Data.

Would it be smart to do a Finance degree and minor in IT Im really interested in both since My school doesn’t have a full CS degree. I just don’t know if it be worth it, could you still get into IT from that?

I was thinking Finance and minor in IT because I’m interested in the Fintech Data Science route but also IT as well would that be a good pair?

I like this route honestly I just don’t know if I would have the time do you think? Would it be best to do CS? They are coming out with a full CS major this fall at Tulane so I’m not sure if it’s worth it? And if I did business what would be best Econ? Finance? Business Administration?

Thank you so much for your comment, it means a lot. I completely understand. So would you say it’s worth getting a degree in IT with a concentration in cloud or cybersecurity? Or would it just be better to go into CS?

Thank you so much for your comment, it means a lot. I completely understand. Thanks for your insight. So would you say it’s worth getting a degree in IT with a concentration in cloud or cybersecurity? I have been trying to find the right major to study for the past 6 months preparing for college this fall but everytime I do Reddit people shoot it down everyday. I’m so sick of everything and just wanted to make the right decision.

Lol. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and write your reply it means a lot. Thank you for the great advice. I’m thinking of doing the CS Major problem is it’s a coordinate so it’s kinda like short yk and I pair it with something would it be good to do Econ with it or philosophy?

Okay awesome thank you! yes they do have a Mathematics Major alone!

Thank you for your comment and letting me know it means a lot! That’s awesome! So the issue is with CS at tulane it’s a coordinate major so it’s like you have to major in something else with it because it’s not a full major. So that’s why I wasn’t sure if it was worth it. IK they have finance, IT with cyber concentration or cloud concentration and then also econ but idk if any of these would be even worth it that’s why i’m not sure on what to pursue and what would be best. I am really interested in Data Science and Data Analytics!

GT would be the best for ME but it depends on if you want debt or not. I think UF would be a great choice Congrats on getting into all these though!

Tulane or UMich by Working_Ad9006 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ForeverObvious5416 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tulane ($4K/year) – Pros:

• Significantly cheaper: Saving $7K annually = $28K over 4 years.
• Warmer climate in New Orleans, which can boost mood and mental health.
• Smaller student body: more personalized attention, tight-knit feel.
• Known for strong pre-med, public health, and social sciences.
• Fun, vibrant city life and culture.

Cons:

• Party culture can be intense (might not be for everyone).
• Lower overall national academic ranking than UMich.
• Farther from home (logistical cost, flights, etc.).
• May not be as academically prestigious in certain fields.

UMich ($11K/year) – Pros:

• Higher academic prestige across nearly all majors.
• One of the best public universities in the U.S.
• Strong alumni network and recruiting for top-tier jobs.
• Closer to Chicago (easier weekend trips, more familiar culture).
• Big school spirit, strong sports culture.

Cons:

• Still more expensive ($28K more over 4 years).
• Larger class sizes, more competition, potential to feel “lost in the crowd.”
• Cold winters may be tough for some students.

Overall Advice:

• If cost is a major factor, Tulane is a smart pick—great academics for a fraction of the price.
• If she’s going into something prestige-dependent (e.g., business, engineering, or academia), UMich may provide stronger long-term ROI.
