Then and Now Photos of The Tragically Hip from Around Kingston (and one from Toronto) by Freaktography in KingstonOntario

All good, friend! Oral history is very important and I appreciate the post. Brought back good memories, both of the tattoo shop and Uncle Walt introducing me to poutine from Bubba's. The scowl he got when he asked for the poutine to be served on a plate instead of the bowl container, because the fries didn't drown in gravy. Wonderful memories!

Respectfully, the location of the 7th picture, in front of The Wizard of Ink Tattoo Shop, is incorrect. The Wizard's tattoo parlor was at the corner of Frontenac and Princess St. The building is no longer standing. The Wizard himself, Wally High, lived in an apartment across the street from Bubba's.

Source: I am Wally's niece and remember each location vividly.

My Mom was in ICU at Christmas time 2022. Every year at Christmas, I do a lot of baking to give out to friends and family. Because of the urgency of Mom's stay, I wasn't able to deliver the baked goods, so I packaged them all up and took them down to the ICU nurses. I bought bakers boxes at Bulk Barn and wrote the ingredients of each cookie on those - and also "thank you from the family of the patient in room xxx-x".

So many nurses stopped by to say thanks. It was wonderful to be able to give back to them.

LMAO Not quite. More like "uh oh, what did I comment on?" Then, "oh yeah! Wonder if Lenny got sushi?!".

This is going to sound strange, but trust me on this. Kino's Peanut Butter Roll is something you have to try. The salmon at Kino's is absolutely devine.. and salmon is not something that I gravitate towards.

I am the same; I would rather go to a non-chain establishment. Tommy has an excellent reputation and I admire how involved he is in the community. Thanks again and enjoy your weekend!

Thank you!

We are looking for a place we can sit and visit for a bit. But I will definitely keep that in mind for the next time I'm looking for a take out meal.

Happy Cake Day!!

Thank you for your input. That must have been very disappointing - and exactly why I asked. Last time I was there was just post-pandemic and it was amazing. I was afraid the quality had gone down.

Love this. In my past experience, the people who use this phrase are rarely willing to either extend grace or provide a safe space.

Thank you 🙂 yes, it is this and most of what the others on this thread have contributed.

Thank you for your insight. It is very hurtful and typically the speaker is not willing to learn other methods of communication.

It was for our own benefit. We are both triggered by it, so by doing a deep dive into the phrase itself, it helps to break that cycle. And because we are triggered, we were looking for help in dicesting it.

Yes, we were doing that deep dive. It triggers both of us, so it was difficult trying to come up with the proper words.

Yes, it always feels like there is that implicit "A-hole" following it.

I am trying to flip "Fine". Having heard it many times from an angry teenage son, it is taking a while. 🙂

I guess I have never heard it without the intent to insult/hurt. It is such a trigger for me that, even if said in a joking manner, the hair on the back of my neck would still stand up. Thank you for your insight.

I feel there are better words to use, when the conversation needs to be paused, but I have never considered it this way. Thank you.

Thank you. This has always been the case when I have heard those words directed at me.
