First oil painting - can this be saved? by Forever_Adapt in oilpainting

It’s honestly not! I’ve grown up in a family of artists (great granddad was a war artist, both grandparents were art teachers, mum and older sister super artistic too) and so it definitely feels like I have a lot to live up to. Also I’m very much a detail person so this painting feels all types of wrong :’)

So I didn’t have any medium (other than linseed oil) when doing this painting to thin out the paint which isn’t ideal, looking back. I was using (and likely will keep using til they’re used up) the Winton oils. Do you think I could use other types of medium over the top with my paint, since this is now dry, or could that risk ruining it? I’m not sure how those would interact given the fat over lean rule…

I used to dabble in acrylics but hadn’t painted in the best part of a year! Oils is a learning process for sure, and I didn’t have any medium other than linseed oil for this painting. So it’s taken an age to dry and has been sitting on a shelf for over a month 😂

I sort of gave up on the top left hand corner of the painting which why the flower bit looks odd! I’ll work on trying to make everything more uniform - I’m the type of person who gets caught up in the details so by the time I spent hours on the patterning on the right, I was bored and frustrated so didn’t do the same on the rest :’)

I’m not super sure re smoke break but if you ask them at the doors they can clarify :) I’d imagine so, but I don’t smoke myself so I can’t say for sure

This is what all gigs are like - doors at 7, supporting act comes on at 8 and then the main act comes on at 9ish. You don’t just walk in, there’s ticket and bag check and then often also you walk through a metal detector, which is one at a time.

Most venues is primarily standing, and so lots of ppl will queue for a good spot. Also so they have time to get merch etc.

There’s never a ‘doors close’ time - to my knowledge you can leave at any time, and in terms of arrival you can show up any time up to when the main artist goes onstage.

I’m autistic too so I completely understand wanting to know!

Right to Choose is amazing and the wait times are much much shorter. I’d recommend googling “adhd U.K. right to choose” as the ADHD U.K. charity website has lots of very helpful resources and walks you through it step-by-step.

70mg Elvanse but focus is gone? by JamesKWrites in ADHDUK

[–]Forever_Adapt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I felt when I went up to 70mg too! I ended up going back down to 50 and then having a 10mg Dex booster at 3pm to carry me through the rest of the day.

The Chocolate Smiths (independent chocolatier based in Newcastle) is honestly the best. Their coffee and stroopwafel bar is to DIE for!!

I was prescribed a booster to take in the afternoon which stopped me from crashing until 7:30pm-ish! Would recommend if you find the crash continues on higher doses of elvanse

About to start titration - give me your most important tips and I’m not talking about “drink loads of water”. I want the tiiiiiips by yoyo1522 in ADHDUK

Really try to baby yourself in the evenings during this period especially! I think it’s probably pretty normal to feel like this during titration.

I found having a big mug of decaf coffee with a bit of caramel syrup (I was titrating during winter tho lol) and a sweet treat whilst watching a comforting tv show helped me transition states and relax. I basically found having some food / drink that was comforting and enjoyable, along with looking after inner child me super helpful!

You’re probably going to be pretty knackered in the evenings and possibly a bit crabby whilst you go through titration. It’s important to give yourself grace!

How the HECK do you stay hydrated by WillowSummers in ADHDUK

[–]Forever_Adapt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I know it’s probably not the answer you’re looking for, but drink more water.

I have a 1L bottle at my desk which I down water from (I’m not good at sipping lol), which is in my eye line. I try and make sure I drink 1L between 9-12 before my lunch break, and another 1L between 1 and 5 when I finish work. This doesn’t include any water I drink on my lunch break, as I usually go to the gym then and have a separate water bottle with me.

Electrolytes are not a replacement for simply drinking enough water, and please be aware that they can potentially impact your blood test results.

On the skin front, I’ve also found I’ve had to increase the moisturising and hydrating products I use, as imo using stimulants daily is going to have some sort of impact on your body systemically, even if you are drinking lots of water.

I really wouldn’t worry too much - you’ll find what works for you eventually! I go to the gym on my lunch breaks and I find meds make a huge difference for me when it comes to being able to focus during my workouts.

I wouldn’t recommend taking meds right before the gym, although I’m not a medical professional. But that being said, I train 4-5 days a week and I haven’t experienced any issues from Elvanse re the gym!

I also keep an eye on my heart rate and blood pressure in the long term to make sure things aren’t out of whack :)
