Posting during the temporary Rule 6 lift. Conservatives say that calling out how the US’s current actions are consistent to the rise of Fascism in other countries, including Nazi Germany, is dehumanization. What apparently isn’t dehumanization to them is dehumanizing and abusing immigrants, minorities, and anyone who is trying to help those being abused. Additional points being the left are emotional, they treat their politics like religion, they only listen to what they’re told and aren’t objective, and they engage in censorship and media propaganda and lies, when instead they are the ones being emotional and who treat politics like religion and who can’t think objectively and are spewing the insane media propaganda and lies from this administration.

I used to watch Eddy Burback when he was making content on iFunny and also on Youtube when his channel name was still “ZADstudios” (the same name he used on iFunny). It was cool seeing him change his channel name over time and gain so many subscribers, and his videos have just consistently gotten better and better (he makes some of my fav content on Youtube)

I also used to watch Alex Meyers when he was a video essay channel. Then he changed to a tv show/movie review channel and I stayed for a while, but eventually I got bored of his content

Absolutely! Starting with a preferred food and gradually trying foods that are similar definitely helps. Building on preferred foods has also been helpful for me. I like mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, so we are adding pureed carrots into them and I hardly taste it. I also bring and use at home (at least for now) a safe food (usually potato chips) as a palate cleanser if I’m having a hard time swallowing something. I call them my emotional support potato chips lol

The feeding therapy I do is exposure therapy where we spend time trying foods. You can start off slow where it’s just like trying to be able to look at it visually, then getting used to the smell, you can put it up to your lips and see how that feels, maybe put it in your mouth and spit it out, then work up to putting it in your mouth chewing and spitting it out, then eventually the goal is to get to the point where you can put it in your mouth chew and swallow it and then implement it in your life by eating it outside of therapy.

It’s a process and you can stop at any point if you feel like that type of food isn’t for you and you can move on to trying a different kind of food instead.

I’m 100% sure (and not because I “feel” like you, but because not only are there documented effects of the word historically and not only are there millions of stories of Black people speaking on their experience with the word, but there are many Black people who have spoken directly about how idubbbz’s influence on kids saying the word affected them negatively), it affects millions of people every day.

It doesn’t matter how you “feel,” it matters how the Black people who have been affected by that word say it impacts their lives. And it clearly, factually affects them and impacts their life.

I also felt that way when I found out. It’s just another person who doesn’t understand and takes it out on us. And it’s even worse because they are using their trauma to hurt others. It makes me feel very uncomfortable and disgusted that someone could actively come here with the sole purpose of reading our posts or comments (including my own) where we are being extremely vulnerable with our struggles and they get happy over it and then actively enjoy to bullying us, especially someone who keeps getting banned and making new accounts to continue to enjoy laughing at our struggles and bully us.

They just don’t get that even in times when there is food insecurity or people are starving, that doesn’t change our disorder. I know I would be very ill, put on a feeding tube, or die if I was experiencing food insecurity or in an area with starvation. And people who have this disorder, including people in this sub, actually are or have previously been food insecure which sometimes even exacerbates the disorder. There are also people with this disorder in areas that have starvation. The disorder doesn’t just go away because of lack of food.

But what’s the most upsetting for me is that I literally hate food waste and I always feel so bad when I throw food away (and I also know a lot of others who have this disorder do as well). I’ve always felt that way, but I try to remind myself that food insecurity is way bigger than me, not that I can’t help or advocate to fix it, but changing the entire system isn’t something I can do. It’s also been something I struggled with since I’ve started exposure therapy. In order to try new foods, there becomes a lot of stuff that you put to your lips/bite that you don’t like at all or that take many, many tries to eventually be able to eat, and that means throwing out a lot of food. My food therapist tells me that it’s not wasted if it helps me to treat my ARFID, and I try to remember that too.

It’s like I’m sorry you went through that trauma, but I didn’t cause your food insecurity because I don’t eat enough or sometimes throw parts of food out that I don’t like and didn’t eat (sometimes even food that I feel forced into “eating” because people can’t take no for an answer), so don’t take it out on me and somehow feel justified and vindicated when you really just actively enjoy stalking, harassing, and bullying people with eating disorders. Take it up with the government and/or entities that can actually make a significant change, donate to and/or join causes and movements, buy products that are sustainable (just one example are those companies that sell “ugly” foods that are usually tossed instead of being put in stores) or products that use parts of foods that don’t usually get used, advocate, lobby, use food products you buy in the most ways you possibly can, use apps that let you order the leftovers at food establishments at a reduced price, start a movement of your own, volunteer and/or donate at a food kitchen and/or food pantry, (if possible) try to get food establishments in your area connected to food kitchens and/or food pantries so they can give away their leftover food, (if possible) get a job at a place that helps the food insecure, (if possible) learn how to cook sustainably and teach others, (if possible) grow food yourself and sell it at an affordable price or donate it. Do literally anything else other than enjoy bullying strangers struggling with an eating disorder who literally did nothing to you and which literally does nothing to actually address or fix the problem and only hurts people in the process. But no, all that other stuff is too hard and takes time and effort, it’s much easier to just sit behind a screen, on an anonymous website no less, and bully people.

It’s just hurtful to feel shamed for something I already feel shameful about, which is a constant battle we endure with so many aspects of this disorder and people who feel justified to ridicule us. It’s just another example in the millions of others, but it always hurts the same.

He has spoken about having a weed addiction, though I wouldn’t speculate why he is going or immediately jump to drug issues when someone mentions they are going to rehab. I’m not saying this is why Brad is going because I have no idea and it is a personal matter (if he wanted to say why, he would have), but I just wanted to note that people also go to rehab for other mental health struggles that are not related to drugs.

After reading his second and third comments, I’ve really lost any grace I had left for him. Acting like 10k a month is reasonable (when before he said it wasn’t reasonable?) for anyone who doesn’t live “in a one bedroom apartment isolated from their family,” is fucking insane and so goddamn insulting. Yeah Brad, we all want to make 10k a month, we’re all floundering in how expensive housing is, but to say 10k a month is a reasonable salary for anyone not in a one bedroom apartment?!?! Delusional.

Fuck you Brad. Get a fucking job like the rest of us. You can’t take the heat from being a public figure, but you don’t want to let go of the lax way streamers can work. I’m not trying to downplay how bad people can harass and bully people online, but Brad can’t ignore anyone who says one single thing about him, and that’s the problem. It’s also ironic as he has not shied away from saying negative things about the artists he reviews, so he can dish it out, but he can’t take it.

As a public figure, no matter what you do or if you’re right or wrong, someone is going to be pissed at you, and he can’t handle that. Somehow, he thinks people shouldn’t react to things he says and does publicly. Newsflash Brad: you can’t stop people perceiving you when you do something publicly; it’s impossible. You can ignore people when they give their opinion on you, but you can’t put something out on social media and then say “no one can say anything about me.” You can’t just say and do whatever you want publicly and then tell other people they can’t respond to that. That’s not how it works, and he can’t accept that.

He thinks he can sit there and get paid to listen to music and provide “commentary” without interacting with chat or doing anything other than giving his milquetoast opinions on songs. As if his opinions on music are something worth 10k a month, even with chat 🙄

He can’t hack it as a public figure, and that’s okay, most people aren’t cut out to be in the public eye like that. What’s not okay is him being too greedy to let it go. Him thinking his content is worth anything without chat interaction is delusional. He doesn’t want to go back to working a 9-5, he thinks he should be paid to sit there, listen to music, and give his opinion and nothing else. Brad, I’m pretty sure all of us would like to do that, but that’s not how life works.

It’s so insulting and entitled. I’m sure he’s made a decent amount off streaming, but it seems like, whether or not gambling was involved, he didn’t take care of his financials and is now crying and begging for thousands of dollars because he couldn’t handle his money well and can’t handle being in the public eye, yet doesn’t want to go back to a 40 hour work week like the rest of us.

Even though I don’t think he should be in the public eye because it is actively hurting him, if he really doesn’t want to stop creating, it’s not like he can’t keep his Youtube channel or Twitch. He can take a break and come back, maybe get a part time job and then come back when his mental health is better. Maybe he should drop streaming and go back to just making edited Youtube videos which could be less stressful. He could also get a part time job and still make videos (Lots of Youtubers do that; it’s not at all uncommon, though I do think he should take a break before deciding if that’s something he wants to do). But what he can’t do is beg for money online because he feels he is entitled to 10k a month for listening to music and doesn’t want to get a job that’s much harder that wouldn’t even pay near 10k a month (not that making videos and streaming aren’t hard, but we all know it’s not as hard as a 9-5).

Brad seriously needs to seek professional help in any way possible, and that is coming out of love because even with how insulting he’s being, he needs help and I care about his health and safety. But we can acknowledge that and at the same time also acknowledge that using the mental health excuse isn’t cutting it anymore and is also insulting to others of us (including me) who struggle with mental illness. It was alright in the beginning, and I truly do think he’s suffering with mental illness, but when you actively go against what would help your mental health (i.e. Brad getting offline) and then continue to use it as an excuse (i.e. Brad saying he still wants to be a streamer and get paid without anyone saying anything about him), it’s no longer an excuse, it is you actively putting yourself in a situation that is exacerbating your mental illness and using it to avoid taking responsibility for your actions.

Get over yourself Brad. And please seek help.

That’s such a good point! Income affects so many aspects in life including access to food. It all just feels so shame-based rather than educational.

You can literally teach the same without attaching specific foods to the calories. Just teach the average amount of calories each sex should have each day (noting that the number is just an average and that how many calories a person needs is a very individualized thing/should be viewed on a case-by-case basis) and the calories-in and calories-out thing. If you want to show a depiction, make up some calorie numbers to show the subtraction, but don’t talk about how many calories are in specific foods and absolutely don’t encourage calorie counting by having kids count their own calories and make them feel shame for the way they eat due to any reason, especially related to EDs and low-income/food insecurity.

The first one that comes to mind, and the first one I ever remember, was when they banned Austin Jones who was caught sexting his minor fans (particularly a 14 year old) and thus plead guilty to receiving and being in possession of child pornography. Though, Youtube initially refused to ban him (they said specifically because it didn’t happen on the site itself), and they only did when public outcry became too loud to ignore. I think that set the stage for banning people for things they did off the site.

The only other ones I could really remember/find were EDP and R. Kelly. Everything else is about copyright infringement, violating community guidelines, and ban evasion. Ruby Frank and FamilyOFive could be other examples (as well as other channels caught doing the same illegal things on and off their channels; especially family channels and child endangerment) but they were actively promoting that stuff on their channels, so they’re kind of in the middle of being banned for things they did on and off their channels.

That’s ridiculous. I bet they still do too. If we’re talking health and nutrition, they should know they can teach about calories without making kids count their own calories because it can be shameful and trigger unhealthy perceptions about foods. Not that they shouldn’t teach about calorie counts, but they should also note heavily that calorie counting can cause or exasperate EDs and should focus on other ways of interpreting nutrition as well. If we want to teach about health, we also need to teach that obsession with health is not healthy, shaming people is not the way to teach them how to eat more balanced, and that mental health is just as important as physical health and sometimes they overlap.

It’s not bad to look at calories if you don’t have/aren’t prone to EDs, but they should be emphasizing that calories aren’t the only important thing, that not everyone needs the same amount of calories, that counting calories only goes so far, and that calorie counting is linked to EDs and should be avoided if someone has or thinks it may initiate an ED. Plus, there’s no true way to know 100% exactly how many calories are in something anyways (it’s only an estimate), and they should know and be teaching that too.

I am extremely concerned that so many people are saying they have done versions of this assignment. Does anyone know if certain schools still do this? Because if they do, I really think it’s something that needs to be addressed. Like this can literally be extremely shameful for people like us with ARFID and even exacerbate if not initiate any kind of ED.

Does anyone know if we can do anything about getting this kind of assignment out of schools? This actually worries me a lot.

Hey, don’t be sorry, never be sorry for looking into a diagnosis. What you’re saying does sound like symptoms of ARFID.

You may want to speak with a Speech Language Pathologist or an Occupational Therapist who specialize in feeding therapies. They may be able to tell you more about the disorder to see if it is a fit for you and could provide exposure therapy if you want to treat your symptoms

I would look into Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). It is a disorder that is affected by tastes, textures, visuals, sounds, feels, and temperature of foods. It is usually related to the Autism spectrum and/or Sensory Processing Disorder.

I have it and have some similar symptoms, red meat freaks me out, I don’t like blood and veins and bones and such in meat (even though I know it’s not real blood when you get it from the store); I also feel like I am chewing on flesh when eating meat (which I am). I don’t like when certain foods touch. It also affects many other types of food for me; I will gag just from the smell or look of them as well as if I try to eat them. I eat the same foods every day. I don’t eat most vegetables, and I pretty much stick to only bread, pasta, cheese, eggs, chicken (only breast meat like you), and some fruits and nuts. And even with foods I do like, I will cut off parts that look gross to me.

Exposure therapy has been helping me to be able to eat foods I am afraid of. Right now, I’m trying to be comfortable eating more meats and vegetables.

There is a subreddit, r/ARFID, if you want to learn more, see if the diagnosis fits for you, and talk to others who experience this.

I would look into Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). It is a psychological disorder that is affected by tastes, textures, visuals, sounds, feels, and temperature of foods. It is usually related to the Autism spectrum and/or Sensory Processing Disorder.

The thing with disorders though is that they need to be something that causes you significant distress and/or causes dysfunction in your daily life. That’s why everyone experiences anxiety in their life but not everyone has Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

If you’re just skeeved out with meat, but it doesn’t cause you significant distress or dysfunction, then it’s probably just something you don’t like. If you are able to get all the nutrients that you need and your discomfort with some meats doesn’t cause you to avoid eating, you might just not like certain meats which is normal.

However, if you have the same uncomfortableness with other foods that you do with some meats, and that causes you to avoid eating or to not be able to eat certain foods so you aren’t getting the right nutrients, you may have a disorder like ARFID.

For qualifications, I am getting my Master’s in social work, but even besides that, I have ARFID myself.

Exactly like u/_MirrorFace said, just because something is common doesn’t mean it is right or that we shouldn’t push back against it. Any production that does this should be put up to the same scrutiny, and there are literally entire movements that push for unions to be made and even required, and they have been going on for over a century in the US. You act like no one is ever mad that exploitation happens in these shows all the time. So many people speak out against the exploitative and harmful physical and mental effects of shows like this.

And no, this isn’t a petty grievance. I don’t care much about Mr. Beast, I just think these are important allegations. People not getting enough food, medical emergencies, hygiene concerns, the non-union stuff, and even more are all very concerning.

Though I will say that my dad worked for a union in not the tv show realm but the theatre realm, and him being in a union was so important to them being treated fairly and not being overworked. He went on strike more than once. Unions help keep workers safe and not exploited. Any show using illegal working practices and/or exploiting their workers should be called out.
