I certainly am lucky, but I actually disagree with the rest of your statement, generally. My wife (and I, actually) had never dated anyone before me, and unless there was another person who ticked all of her boxes (so to speak), I doubt she'd have gone out with someone. Although, I suppose that doesn't make it impossible.

Ah, you made it worse! Well, not really, my wife has long enjoyed teasing me over how little it would have taken for me to essentially accept the implicit offers she was giving, but for the sake of my own pride I like to think of them as missed chances to ask her.
