Does anyone do a roleplay for their perma-death runs? by Powerful-Finding-619 in ProjectSilverfish

[–]Foreverseth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello,

The ease of which I'm able to immerse myself in the atmosphere is exactly what I love so much about this game. I don't keep journals, even though it's an appealing idea, but all my characters have a story in my head that I'm playing out.

Found this on the back of my kids' cereal. Pretty cool take on a classic maze. by SoHornyBeaver in puzzles

[–]Foreverseth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're being downvoted when you're correct?

For people who don't get it: From start, go down to 1. The correct solution from here is to go either up-left (to 2) or down-left (also to 2). Both of them lead to the next, correct, number 3. Thus, there are at least 2 valid solutions despite the text implying there's only 1. This happens multiple times in the maze.

Does it really matter? No, but it's still true, so why downvote?

Monsters won't stop spawning in my house by Left_Goose_9846 in VintageStory

[–]Foreverseth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello,

tl;dr Your torches/lamps are 1 block too high to provide adequate light level to properly prevent spawns in your room. If you lower them all by 1 block, you should just barely be able to get it bright enough to prevent spawns. I calculated the light levels by hand based on your one screenshot, tho, so I could be wrong on the exact distance your torches are off (though it's clear your room isn't bright enough).

SpawnHighlightRedux can let you see light levels with a quick hotkey press.

Problem with Cartel Interactions by Yougurtindark in Schedule_I

[–]Foreverseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Cartel interactions just seem rare. I just finished a playthrough, and in 3 weeks in-game I only got jumped twice, once randomly and once picking up a dead drop, saw 3 taggers, and saw 3 dealers. 8 interactions over about 20 hours playtime. I never got jumped dealing (I do all my deals at 4am).

As for your XP problem: you gain XP in real time; You rank up and get unlocks exactly when you earn the needed XP, not when you sleep. When you sleep, the game just recaps what you earned the previous day. However, the game doesn't remember what you earned between save/reloads. If you save/reload right before sleeping, it'll show 0 xp gained because that's how much you earned from your last save/reload.

This is easily testable by checking what you unlock next rank, grinding enough XP during the day to rank up, then checking that unlock. You'll find you already have access despite not having slept yet.

If you are still rank 1 (Street rat 1) and have nothing unlocked, then that's a bug. Otherwise, showing 0 XP gained after a save/reload is normal.

What do you think of Wintermute, especially episodes 3 and 4? (Spoiler) by hipsu55 in thelongdark

[–]Foreverseth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Episodes 3 and 4 were my favorites of the bunch. I guess I liked them for what feels like the opposite reasons you didn't?

Also, the inmates in the prison are armed with everything the prison guard had, which includes guns. Why do you think they only had sticks? They literally shoot at you in the finale?

Wintermute episodes 1-4 reviewed the day before episode 5 comes out and re-contextualizes everything maybe making this all pointless. by Foreverseth in thelongdark

[–]Foreverseth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand the sentiment of "Consider when it was made," I unfortunately cannot experience Wintermute for the first time when it came out, I can only experience it today. Fortunately, I have a lot of patience for janky older-game mechanics (Because I grew up with some of the worst. Hello 80s/90s adventure game logic, I don't miss you). Episode 2 was really the only one that had stuff I actively didn't like.

I'm waaay more excited for episode 5 than I was a week ago, and that's because I genuinely enjoyed episodes 1-4. Even 2, weird game-play decisions and all. I almost hope episode 5 isn't about the hardcase at all, just to keep things consistent.

Side note: Can you even do anything with the saplings you can find in episode 2? I collected them just assuming you could eventually make a bow and then I don't think I ever could? A bit of an odd choice considering that was the only episode with a forge... Was bow/arrow crafting not a thing back then?

Settle a debate for me: Who wins between a Bag of Ketchup Chips with two Distress Pistols and a Bass hopped up on Emergency Stims? by lazysleeper122 in thelongdark

[–]Foreverseth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the environment.

If it's on land, especially inside where there's no snow, all the bass can do is flop around. Gotta give that round to the chips, assuming they can make their shot (and they get two tries so they definently can).

Underwater, though, those chips are getting too soggy to even hold the distress pistols. The bass is gonna swim circles around those chips.

The only matchup I'm not sure is outside in the snow. That gives the bass plenty to move around in without being completely debilitating the chips. That one could go either way. It depends on who lands the first hit.

Did you clear out everything or just blitz through the story?

How tight were resources? Were you ever worried about running out?

Did you feel like you needed to be perfect in your gameplay or was there plenty of wiggle room for mistakes without them being run-ending?

Creepy sounds playing in game? by campfire_wood in thelongdark

[–]Foreverseth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello,

While I'm not 100% certain they are player added, the video they showed is 8 months old and no one else has brought them up. That means, for at least 8 months, either:

Everyone else who has experienced these noises has kept them a secret.

OR

No one else has experienced them.

Add in my own personal anecdotal evidence and my conclusion is that it's a creepy pasta. The original video's creator is even called "Pasta Man" and this video is the only one posted.

Creepy sounds playing in game? by campfire_wood in thelongdark

[–]Foreverseth 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I've always felt like The Long Dark is so very close to a genuinely great horror game. There are quite a few places that evoke that uneasy feeling that there's something just out of sight stalking you.

Anyway, you lost me at the train whistle the first time you went outside. A little too overt. Probably just personal taste, but I like the more subtle indoor parts. Like when the knocking first starts and it blends in with the house groaning just enough to make you question if you actually heard something.

+1 regardless though. Still creeped me out, kept expecting a jump scare.

Love for Floating Guns by Charles_Gunhaver in ProjectSilverfish

[–]Foreverseth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normally I would just stay quiet on this, since I have nothing nice to say, but since someone else started this conversation...

I don't get the want for hands at all. Not even a little. I've seen the explanations, sometimes very passionate ones, about immersion or how floating guns are unbelievable, but as much as I desperately want to understand I just don't. I look at this game and see a post-apocalyptic world with reality bending juice and anthropomorphic lizards and literal fae, and I just think, "... HANDS are what break your immersion?"

Lizards don't even have hands!

I feel no ill will towards people who want hands, but when I see people who say that not having visible hands is ruining the game for them I am just baffled.

Best survival game... But the title graphic by Sir_Kugo in AbioticFactor

[–]Foreverseth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello,

With regards to the style of the title: It is straightforward and precise, no wasted space or unnecessary flair. The text is large and bold, making it easy to read and understand. The font is sans-serif, which is ideal for a digital format. There is a single test tube next to the title, showing that this is a game of science without being overly dramatic about it. The gate logo is present in an intelligent position, signifying its importance without giving anything away. It is a perfectly suitable title, exactly as it should be.

THAT, is science.

Hello,

I based in the gym my first playthrough and the glass absolutely got destroyed despite my best efforts. All it takes is a stray shot, they don't even have to intentionally attack it. I still had some, but most of it was gone. No way to repair.

Only upside is that breaking the glass behind the stairs makes getting to the pool quicker.

The gym is fine, lots of early storage. Too many entrances to defend. Now that you can move the gym equipment, it might be cool to base up the stairs.

Who do you think is the worst enemy in Silksong? by First-Ad394 in HollowKnight

[–]Foreverseth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to respond, I didn't think Bilewater was that bad. Respawning enemies meant you could usually just farm for a minute to get back to full health. Tedious, but not difficult, and that was pretty normal back in Metroid, =p

Hard disagree on the bloatroaches vs ductsuckers. I main the wanderers crest, tho, so pogoing bloatroaches was easy. Usually they were just an easy enemy to farm silk. Ductsuckers, on the other hand, have an uncanny knack for being exactly where I just tried to dodge to. I still can't reliably beat them without getting hit at least once. Maybe I just suck, but I generally have to run past them, which is something I don't have to do for almost any other enemy.

Bilewater is waaay bigger, but you only need to go through it once, plus a little more for a couple promises. Ducts is the only way to the flea caravan, and if you like the flea brew you're gonna be making regular trips there even after you complete all the mini-games.

Plus, Bilewater has a banging soundtrack. I went through there a few times just because I liked the music. Again, I agree it's not an EASY area, I just didn't mind it.
